July-28, the city- of Winston-Salem took another step in revitalizing the * downtown area by opening the 659-space Liberty-Main Parking Deck. Summer Scie . - What is a mammal, a snake, The answers to these and many other questions that intrigue youngsters are at the Nature Science Park awaiting discovery. To. facilitate such discoveries, the Park offers Summer Science Adventures for children aged four through seven. For four weeks, the youngsters explore and experiment, ask and learn. The outdoor world opens to them as they feed animals, play with turtles, catch grasshoppers, hunt sassafrass in the woods. Youngsters discover that they can make a rainbow or a magnifying glass. They find edible wild plants and make their own salad. They learn that turtles have soft necks and don't like to be upside down. The find out first hand where the expression "he eats like a pig" comes from. Every day brings something new, as the turtle pen needs' cleaning or the snakes get fed; and new exhibits are sought out and put in place. Wild plants are closely studied and collected for the greenhouse areea. Youngsters interested in becoming Young Interns may sign up by the week or month through August 15. They may choose morning or afternoon. The second session of Summer Science Adventures begins July 22 and runs through August 15.
