November 15, 1975 J An In by Vivian McMillan Special Correspondent Miss Patsy Louise Lynch will reign over Winston-Salem State University's homecoming activities for this year. She is the daughter of Mrs. Lelia Lynch and hails from Enfield, N.C. Miss Lynch is a senior Earlv Childhood Education major. Her working experience as a teacher's aid has influenced her choice to concentrate in the field of Special Education. "I've worked with slow and retarded children and was overwhelmed with their re sponsiveness to- me," said Miss Lynch in a recent interview. She plans to do graduate study in her major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Hairs ton, Epistoleus; Mrs. Eveland' Wooten, Tamiouchos; Mrs. Lois Brake, Financial Secretary; Miss Annie Belton, Hodegos; Miss Eunice Leake, Philacter; Mrs. Mary Andrews, Parliamentarian; Mrs. Virginia Newell, Dean of Pledgees; Mrs. Velma Friende, Reporter; and Miss Lavetnce Oliver, Graduate Advisor. The meeting included reports of the program committee headed by Mrs. Mary Andrews, budget committee by Mrs. Ernestine Worley, social, Mrs. Susie Nance and finance, Mrs. Lois Brake. Mrs. Bessie Allen related the involvement of the sorors in the ESR Senior Citizens' project and Mrs. Azzie Wagner reported on the nmrtvaec of Dloolr Uor>A j/ivgtvra vi uiavn nvi ivo^? Five pledgees were initiated into the sorority. They are: Mrs. Nancy Adams, Mrs. Bette Friende, Mrs. Romona # Raines, Mrs. Marie Hill Roseboro and Miss Diane Sims. Mrs. Vivian Burke, 1975 basileus, presided at the meeting. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, founded in.1908 at Howard 1 Miss Homecoming tellectual B friendly but serious tone. Her hobbies, swimming and tennis,! exemplifies her active nature. She also likes to read a lot which may account for her contemplativeness and pensiveness. However, the more she talks the more one gets the idea that she is not exactly overjoyed with her role as Miss Homecoming. She has some definite ideas about that role. "Nothing very positive has happened to me since I became Mis"^ Homecoming," she said. It has been the custom for Miss Homecoming to act as official hostess during Homecoming festivities. . She is generally recognized and focused attention is given her during the week of Homecoming. She traditionally travels to any homecoming rs Named University, is the oldest black sorority in America. CLASS OF *57 Barbara Kinard Phillips, a Summa Cum Laude graduate, was President of the Senior Class and student body president in 1956-57. Phillips has been Principal at Lowrance Intermediate School since 1973. Prior to this" appointment she served as Model City Education Program . Coordinator for three years; Supervisor for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Continuing Education Program for over two years; and for a five year period she was director for guidance programs at Carver and Paisley Jr. - Sr. High Schools ? A - ? ana co-airector or the guidance program at Atkins High School. CLASS OF '58 Dr. Lorenzo Dixon graduated from Winston-Salem State in 1958. He worked at Kimberley Park School as a teacher and Assistant Principal from 1958-1968. From 1968 to 1969, he served as Assistant Principal at Lowranee School. Both schools are in Winston-Salem, N.C., The Winston-Salem Chronicle *eauty festivities of which her school team is participating. However, she feels that that role has been overlooked. "I was not invited to Fayetteville State University's Homecom ing even though our team played and Miss WSSU was invited," she explained. "I'm a little disappointed."
