The program was born in a Sr. English class at Boggs in response to me August 1975Ebony Magazine article on "Should Blacks Celebrate the Bicentennial?" Students from the academy (an independent ' high school in Keysville, Ga.) gave a resounding "YES!" reply and put together a program telling WHAT we as | Blacks should celebrate and WHY. 1 The production featured slave songs such as "Steal Away" and "Deep River" and moved through the history of Blacks in America in dance, poetry versions of Robert Hayden's "Rungate" and Sterling Brown's "Strong i Vien"- The nrnoram onlmi - % vuiuir lated in the 2nd verse of 'America the Beautiful" and i student's reply to "Should Ne Celebrate?" Jesus' sacrifices on the cross was a patch to make it possible for people who do sinful things to have another chance to know God's love. Did you ever get really angry at someone and say "I'm not going to play with you again," and go home? In Matthew 5:23-24, Jesus says that we are not supposed to do that. He says that Christians must find the person they are angry at, get back together and then help that person find God. You and I are supposed to be like patches for God, helping others by our love and forgiveness to know that God loves and forgives them.
