SPociai Ifthere was a trace of doubt in anyone’s mind as to where the lnost socially elite and debonaire souls of the societal echelon could be found, in all probability it would have taken Sherlock Ws and all of The Yard to find Winston-Salem’s Jet Set lunch tucked quietly and neatly away in the regal splendor of hi Hyatt Regency Ballroom last Friday evening enjoying the iner things of a “Carefree Life’’. To add that aurora of Icharisma plus” was Dr. Fred Tanner and his Ebony Music jmpany playing the hottest and meanest jazz around f Ldreds of gleaming socialites nibbled luscious hors d’ouvres enjoyed tantalizingly delicious mixed drinks were such ccialites as Danetta Fitts, Melvin Mauney and Debra Westrick- llie Walter P. Adamses, The George Hills, The Sterling pinhours and The Andrew Hanses. Also, the Joe Penningtons terethereas were the Robert Phillips, The Games Tillerys and Stresses Diane Autry, Denise Webb, Elaine Gray Mary feompson, Evelyn Penn, Judy Redd, Sandra Thomas, and of lurse Idella Jones, Lucy Cook, and that lovable “pinky” tadley. A reception H Saturday October 30, 1976 - The Chronicle - Page 11 Altavista Club Has Full Week It was a full week of activities for one of Winston- Salem’s oldest black organi zations, the Altavista Garden Club, a senior citizen’s group who have been presenting flower arrangements for deceased friends and relatives and hosting social gatherings for more than 30 years. Five club members started the week with an enjoyable evening at the Little Theater watching a production of Witness for the Prosecution. The members were Mrs. Janie Thomas, president, Mrs. Louise King, vice president, Mrs. Marian Wallace, secre tary, Mrs. Estelle Cropps and Mrs. Maggie Rucker. Two days later the club held a fall flower meeting at the TTic Di-Gel Difference Anti-Gas medicrine Di-Gel adds to its soothing Antacids. Di-Gel. The report, read by Mrs. King included the daffodil, crocus, and tulip. A dried flower arrangement was presented by Mrs. Beulah Hickerson. A delicious lunch eon was served with Mrs. King and Mrs. Penn as co-hostess for the affair. Capping an eventful week, Mrs. Janie Thomas was awarded a trophy for being a charter member of the Ladies Progressive Club of Mount Zion Baptist Church and had her name engraved on the president s bowl for serving as the group’s president for two terms.
