He was previously an assistant vice president with American Security Bank in Washington, D. C. A native of Columbia,. S.C., Ransey is a graduate of the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Ms. Mims joined the bank in 1975 and became a retail operations specialist in 1977. She was recently named teller training coordinator. A native of Macon, Ga.f she is a graduate of Spelman College, Atlanta, Ga. Ms. Query joined Wachovia's Charlotte office in 1969. She transferred to the Asheboro office in 1976 as a Personal Banker. She has held her current position in Winston-Salem as Personal Banker instructor since June 1977. A native of Asheboro, she graduated from Queens College and attended the Institute of European Studies in Vienna, Austria. ### TEN CITY/COUNTY SCHOOLS MATH TEACHERS have been selected by the State Department of Public Instruction to lead regional workshops in teaching mathematics through a laboratory approach. The workshops? will be held in eight locations across the state. The local educators, chosen for the highly successful math laboratories here, are: Margo Perkins and Jeanette Gann. Coordinators of Title I and ESAA~rrrath fabs; Glenn Junior High teacher Kay_? Sissell; West Forsyth teacher Sue Smith; Anderson teacher Loretta Walker; Carver teacher Charlotte Inabinet; Hill teacher Maroiene Hill: Revnolds teacher Donald Cobbr Atkins teacher Nancy lcenhour, and Mt. Tabor teacher Linda Gragg. Workshops will be held at UNC-Ashville, Iredell Elementary in Statesville, Wolf Meadow Elementary in Concord, Andrews High School in High P<5tnt, Lewis Chapel Junior High in Fayetteviller Martin^ Junior High in Ra leigh, Southwest Junior High in Jacksonville and Martin Community College in Williamston. The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools math laboratories and teachers have been identified by the state department as one of the best working models for secondary math remediation. The teachers will share-information about materials, successful teaching techniques, and activities for teaching math skills and applications required by the new state competency testing program for eleventh graders. nnn -VICTOR FACCINTO ANP DONNA RADER has been ^ = employed as Secondary Coordinators for the North Caro? lina School of the Arts Artist-in-Residence program which is funded by the Rockefeller Foundation. The Artist-in-Residence Program, which is made possible by a three-year $200,000 grant from the Rockefeller Foundation, is designed to bring national and regional artists of exceptional talent to Winston-Salem to live, work, and interact with th6 three sponsoring institutions and the public. Approximately 25 to 30 artists are particinntinn in *! /. ? Victor Faccinto will administer the program at Wake Forest University as well as act as Director of the Art Gallery at the Fine Arts Center. Mr. Faccinto received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from California State University, where he also taught. He has exhibited widely and been employed at the Nancy Hoffman Gallery in New York City. Donna Rader will administer the program at the North Carolina School of the Arts. As a practicing weaver, ms. Rader has recently worked as audience coordinator for the Washington Park Neighborhood Arts Program. She received her B.S. degree from State University of New York and her M.Ed, degree from Pennsylvania State University. LOUIS EMANUEL MARTIN has been named by Kresient Carter to join the White House staff as a Special Assistant to the President, responsible -- among other duties -- for working on issues and programs of particular concern to black Americans. Martin also will be responsible for lilaison with black organizations around the nation. Martin, 65, has served as a special assistant to Senator Adlai Stevenson since 1978. From 1969 to 1978, he was president and editorial director of the Chicago Daily Defender. He was deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1961 to 1969. Before joining the committee he spent two years as editorial adviser to Amalgamated Press, Ltd., of Nigeria, and from 1947 to 1959 he was editor in chief of the Chicago Defender. From 1936 to 1947, Martin was editor and publisher of the Michigan Chronicle in Detroit, Mich. He worked as a free lance writer in Havana, Cuba, in 1934 and 1935. Martin received a B.A. degree from the University of Michigan in 1934. He holds honorary Ll.D. degrees from Harvard University (1970) and Wilbcrforce University (1951). He is a member of the board of trustees of the National Urban League, of the boards of directors of the United Way of America and the Overseas Development Council, and of the steering committee of the National Urban Coaliltion. 1 ### \ * -00?
