PALMER, the first director of minority affairs at Wake orest University will head a program designed to recruit minority students ^nd faculty members and to voice minority concerns. Palmer, a native of Augusta, Ga., holds the hflrhHnr'c Hpgree in psychology from Emory University, the master's in African studies and political science from Texas Southern University and the doctorate in higher education administration fromihe Universfity of Indiana at Bloomington. He has held administrative positions- at severalf universities including that of assistant director of admissions at Cuttington University College in Liberia, West Africa, where he also taught political science. In addition to his duties as minority affairs director, Palmer also will teach history at Wake Forest. CLARENCE C.A1NFS. head basketball coach at ???? -^Winston-Salem State?University, recently attended a ?^-^7 briefing on national issues at the invitation of Senator Robert Morcan in Washington. D.C. The day long session allowed a group of constituents to meet with Senator Morgan -and abe briefed by government officials who lectured on topics of national importance. LOWERY* PORTER* THOMPSON AND LOWERY recently received certificates at closing exercises held at McLean's Stenographic and Tutoring Service. Karen V. and Delphenia D. Lowery completed the general Secretarial-Receptionists' course. Jeannette F. Porter, completed the letter writing course emphasizing special techniques and Arlethia Thompson complete the Accounting Essentials for Career Secretaries. Karen and Delphenia Lowery, daughters of Mr. & Mrs. James Lowerv. received besides the general certificate, a certificate of Proficiency College Typewriting. They are 1975 graduates of East Forsyth Senior " -High School. ~ Delphenia Lowery also received the outstanding business award which was cash from Beta Alpha Chapter, lota Ph i Lambada-Sorority. She worked - successfully January, 197& through June, 1978 part time as intermediate typist for the city of Winston Salem's Water Department.-through the-years?_Beta? Alpha Chapter Sorority has given the award, and has taken much interest in students successfully completing our curriculumn courses. Porter, is the first person enrolling upon request and receiving an honor certificate for a special course. ill JSSS Floyd Griffin, coordinator of ROTC programs at both Winston-Salem State University and Wake Forest University, has been promoted from a captain'to a major in dual ceremonies held at both universities. Griffin's wife, .Natalie, helped pin the symbolic stripes on him during the ceremonies. Maj. Griffin, who has been in Winston-Salem for four years, will serve as coordinator of both programs until the summer of 1979, when he is eligible for reassignment.
