Sounds By Joe Daniels n,e L T D - COMMO- jE WORLD TOUR was icelled in Charlotte this Friday due to the -SPINKS fight. (It was Itheduled for September [) However, the show lit on as planned in lensboro and was lucra- I to the Coliseum and I [US Business Depart- |its. you can normally ex it to go to a show in just I ut anywhere in the I th and see either an all II te cast of entertainers scheduled to perform to majority (99%) white audi ence or an all Black show hosting a majority Black (99%) audience. This fact is quickly changing as the mighty force of time brings about FUSION or CROSS OVER music. The COMMODORES show is the show beyond imagination. As the coli seum filled, one wondered had the company of artists been changed to include K.C. & the SUNSHINE BAND or HEATWAVE. The COMMODORES and L T D are the first bands to take a firm and visible grasp in the Crossover charts and appearances, this is one of their (COM MODORES) goals they ob viously have reached. the audience of nearly half and half was not an gered with reserved sear ings on this occasion. Many were switched around dur ing pre-show as they found themselves in the wrong seats. NO RED NECKS; this was a “young- crossover audience” from sixteen to thirty who shared a couple of good hours of extravagant entertainment. Also to be noted is that LIONEL extended a wel come to their “New Found Friends” (Caucasians) and challenged them to the question,” “What took you so long to join the COM MODORE Family”. Re gardless of the peppered crowd, everybody got off including some of the hired police force. LTD opened the sold- out event with HOT DOG (M C with Taurus Product ions) chanting one of their LP sides, “JAM”, the energy these guys created was infinite. The entire show was filled with con- sistant choreograpphy from all but the stationaries (Keyboards and Drums). Exhibiting uniforms of gold and silver glitter (somewhat similar to the outfits of the COM MODORES). They wasted no time in convincing the audience that they had paid The Chronlcle-Satnrday September 23, 1978 -Page 9 When Stephen Foster first wrote "The Old Folks at Home" it oriqinally began "Way down upon the Pee Dee River." to see a show. Many hits old and new alike were transcended from the stage as the group performed a well balanced repertoire. They closed as they opened with “JAM”. The COMMODORES opened with sound record ed to authenticate a landing spaceship (resembling light and sound effects used during the 76’ E W F SPIRIT Tour).
