Thursday, October 27, 1983 Barbara Speaks Speakes Is Featured The Women’s Missionary Society of Hanes CME Church at 819 North Highland Avenue will head the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday. The theme for the day will be “Making Mission Rele vant Through Love to a World in Transition.’’ Mrs. Helen Penn will be the worship leader. The Women’s Chorus will provide the music under the direc tion of Mrs. Pansy Wilkerson and Mrs. Dorothy Archie. Mrs. Barbara Speakes, a native of Winston-Salem, will be the featured speaker. A graduate of Paisley High School, Speakes is currently attending Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury. She is employed with the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem. Speakes is also an active member of Hanes, the Chancel Choir, the Missionary Society, and is a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Commis sion on Membership and Evangelism. World Community Day World Community Day will be celebrated this year on Nov. 4. Sponsored by Church Women United in the United States, this national observance actively demonstrates the continuing commitment of over half a million Christian women of faith to make peace and justice for all people a reality in this world. This year’s service, on the theme “No Longer Strangers,” was prepared by Australian Church Women, who also celebrate World Community Day. Through ex change visits, church women in Australia and the United Slates became keenly aware of similarities in their history and experience.
