Mendez to be install
The Rev. John Mendez, a nativeof New York, will be
installed as pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church at 1075
:Shalimar Drive on Sunday at 5 p.m.
. Mendez comes to Emmanuel from Pleasant Grove

. six years. He received his secondary education in the
public schools of New York and came to North Carolina
in 1968 to attend Shaw University. He has done further
-study at Morehouse School of Religion in Atlanta and
' Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake
Forest.

Presently, Mendez serves on the general board and executive
board of the General Baptist State Convention
' and is on the faculty of Shaw University Divinity School.
He is married to the former Sarah Howard and they
' have two children, Sekou and Jamila.
' Two pre-installation services will be held. Dr. J. Ray
Butler, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church, and his congregation
will conduct services this evening at 7 p.m., and
'Dr. Warnie C. Hay, pastor of Galilee Baptist Church,
'and his congregation, will conduct services Friday at 7
p.m.
Dr. Charles Ward, pastor of First Baptist Church in
Raleigh, will preside at the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday.

of the home; two brothers, Mr. James Parrott and Mr.

N.C., died March 31st in that city.
Surviving relatives are one one, Mr. Joseph B. Walker;
one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Walker both of the city;
several grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Joyce Caldwell Williams
Mrs. Joyce Caldwell Williams of 3995 Waddell St.,
died April 1st at her residence. She was a native of this city,
a faithful member of Middlefork Christian Church,
served as financial secretary of the church, program
chairman of the Christian Woman's Fellowship, usher.
and was a retired employee*^ Forsyth Memorial
Hospital.
Surviving relatives are one son, Mr. Alford Williams,
III of the home; four sisters, Mrs. Diane C. Wallace,
Mrs. Courtney Saunders, Mrs. Phyllis Clauson, and Mrs.
Janie V. Smoot; three brothers, Mr. Hubert H. Caldwell,
Mr. Frederick Caldwell, and Mr. Ronald Caldwell and
other relatives.
Funeral services were conducted April 4th at 3:00 pm
at the Middlefork Christian Church. Interment followed
in the Evergreen Cemetery. ? .

all of the city; one foster daughter, Ms. Betty Amaker of
the city; one foster son, Mr. Larry Amaker of the city;
eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one niece,
one nephew, two sons-in-law and other relatives and
friends. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery
Forsyth Funeral Home in charge of services.
