Hamlin also wrote Campaign Notes B-PA L endorse By ROBIN ADAMS Chronicle Staff Writer Notes we've gathered while following the campaign trail: Following an appeal by Alderman Larry -Little, the Black Political Awareness League has announced its support for presidential candidate Jesse Jackson, breaking its tradition of not endorsing candidates in primaries. Little met with the group Tuesday evening. Jackson earlier received an endorsement from the Baptist -Ministers Conference And Associates, -another organization that usually does not endorse candidates in primary elections.... Former House Speaker Carl J. Stewart Jr., a Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, has distributed information packets disputing an endorsement that his opponent, Bob Jordan, said he received from the AME Methodist Church. Jordan indicated in a press release several weeks ago that he had received the endorsement of the predominantly black denomination. But, according to articles printed in the Raleigh News and Observer and Charlotte Observer, and subsequently photocopied and mailed to the media by Stewart's forces, Jordan was not endorsed by the church. Jordan addressed a meeting of the northeastern district of the church in Smith field and was received favorably by the group, but was not formally endorsed, say church officials. The church's policy, the Rev. J.W. Stanley of Fayetteville said in the articles, is not to endorse can didates. Jordan termed the matter a ^technicality, a misunderstanding." Meanwhile, Stewart says he can boast of endorsements . from the General Baptist State Convention, former congressional* candidate H.M.
