Carmen Elijah
Carmen Elijah will be the guest speaker on the
Mother's Day Program at True Temple Holiness Church
at 627 Alexander St. on Suftday, May 13, at 11 a.m.
Elijah is the coordinator of Pathways, a program that
exposed over 300 women from low-income communities
to workshops, and serves on several boards. She is the
first black women to serve on the city-county Utilities
Commission, was awarded the Scroll of Honor from the
National Association of Negro Women's Club, outstanding
leadership in the Pathways program from
Bethlehem Community Center and a certifiacte of appreciation
from Forsyth County United Way.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Elijah is married to Tom
Elijah, president of the Winston-Salem Urban League.

Second New Bethel
Magdalene M. Watson, a member of Emmanuel Baptist
Church, will be the guest speaker for the Mother's
Day program at Second New Bethel Church on Sunday,
May 11. Her topic will be "Honor Thy Mother I!
Desirous Of Longevity."
Watson is a native of Lumberton and received hei
bachelor's degree in English at Winston-Salem Stat<
University. She formerly taught in the Newark, N.J.
school system and currently teaches English at East For
syth Senior High School.
She teaches Bible School at Emmanuel, is a member o
the EBL Missionary Group, served on the Installatior
Committee and was mistress of ceremony for one of th<
pre-installation services for the Rev. John Mendez.
