While mayor of Charlotte, Eddie appointed men and
women with outstanding civil rights records to boards
and commissions; he worked hard to improve job opportunities
for disadvantaged youth; he helped black colleges;
he has been out front on affirmative action; he supported
fair housing and minority business enterprise programs.
Eddie is the only candidate who, when in a position
to appoint people, gave nearly 40 percent of his appointments
to minorities. The Knox record speaks for
itself.
To know a politician you have to look at all of his
record, not ju$t selective pieces of it. The authors of the
anonymous information kits are being selective to the
point of distorting reality.

have dried up. The result is that they have no thoughts of
their own. Their ideas are all borrowed, and they take
those ideas ready-made.
Because all around us are various alarms, and we are a
part of the busy paths, stepping from one to another,
how needful it is that we study to be quiet. Then we can
think, plan and bring out genuine factors which are hidden,
as the deep-seated emotions which so well control
our thinking are, after all, the determining factors in our
lives.
After spending a few minutes or hours in quietness,
you will find it helps in many ways, giving basic points
pertaining to confidence which breeds success. Too many
people fall into the habit of always overestimating others
while neglecting their own chances. This kind of negative
thinking causes such persons to leave th^ir own opportunities

Wallace that had the substance of a get-well card. So
what? It is also true that during th^ heat of the 1979
primary lor tne Democratic nomination for mayor, Eddie
and Harvey Gantt did exchange words over the meaning
of some of both sides' advertising.
However, in 1983, Eddie actively supported Harvey's
bid to become Charlotte's first black mayor. Today,
Mayor Gantt is a strong and vocal supporter of the Knox
candidacy for governor.
North Carolina needs a governor who will represent all
of us. ... I urge you to vote for Eddie Knox, a man with
the vision, the commitment to principles of equality, and
the legislative and administrative experience to be governor
for all the people.
