Despite their on-the-field
shenanigans, the Indianapolis
Clowns still managed to defeat
the Winston-Salem Indians 6-4
last Thursday at Ernie Shore

The Clowns scored two more
runs during the inning to take a
3-1 lead that they never relinquished.
"It was a good showing for our
team and also for the fans," said
Indians General Manager Melvin
"Rip" Wilkins following the
game. "They put on a good performance
as far as showing off,
but they also played a fundamentally
sound baseball game. I think
it will definitely help our team as
we prepare for the upcoming
State Tournament."
Clowns manager and principal
owner Dave Clark, who also is
the team's first baseman, was
equally complimentary in his appraisal
of the Indians.
"The Indians are one of the
better ball clubs we've faced all
season," said Clark. "They have
a number of very good young
prospects. In the road trip we've

NCAA of prejudice and
discrimination.
Despite the strongly-worded
letter, Howard said, he was
shocked by his firing.
"I thought I was entitled to
freedom of speech," Howard
said in a prepared statement. "I
don't see the world through rosy
glasses as Robinson does, but ... 1
don't believe that I should be
fired- for questioning the
NCAA.... When it comes to
issues of black and white, Robin

that governing body, if it is controlled
by whites, questioned."
Howard added, "Robinson, in
his recommendation that I be terminated,
states that I 'have put
the integrity of the university and
our program in jeopardy.'"

Though the attendance for the
game was less than expected, the
