the Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. convened,
July 8-15 at the Radisson
Plaza Hotel in Charlotte. The
Iota chapter served as the conventions'
host.

about 200 attending from as far

Elsie M. Heckstall has been
elected banking officer at
Wachovia Bank and Trust Co.
She joined the staff of
Wachovia in 1981 and has been a
personal banker at the Twin City
and Coliseum offices here.
Heckstall recently moved to the
bank's Charlotte office, where
she also serves as a personal
banker.
A native of Norfolk, Va.,
Heckstall is a graduate of
Virginia State University.

Other topics discussed were
hypnosis and stressful situations.
A memorial service was also
held for deceased members.
Each local chapter has specific
programs for health screening
and consumer health education.
Convention objectives this year,
however, included continuing
education for nurses, awareness
of society's problems, sponsoring
screening for breast and uterine
cancer.
Speaking at the convention's
grand opening was Dr. Hazel
Blakley of the University of
Maryland School of Nursing and
the life membership speaker was

The Rev. W.E. Diggs of Roxboro
led the invocation. The
family song was led by Jeannette
T. Lewis and the original
welcome was sung by Rudy

Anderson. Fred Mitchell did the
recognitions. Lena T. Crowder
was in charge of the talent section

of student affairs at Harvard
Medical School.
Approximately 306 members
attended the convention.
Also, the National Chi Eta Phi
Sorority and the American
Nurses Association Inc., are
making plans to visit the gravesite

United States. The trip is planned
for Sept. 1-3 in Boston.

iLwas decided that next year's
reunion will be held in Roxboro,
the third Saturday in July
because there are so many elderly
memoers who were unable to attend
this year. The first three reunions
were held in Roxboro.
