Mrs. Willie James Mumford of
Winston-Salem, is a 1965
graduate of Atkins High School
and attended Winston-Salem
State University and Forsyth
Technical Institute. She is
employed by the city-county
Planning Department.
The groom is the son of Mrs.
Janice Hawkins of Louisburg
and the late Clifton Hawkins. He

the National Association of
Black Social Workers recently
, elected officers for the 1984-86
term.
Goals and objectives also were
set for the two-year period.
The newly-elected officers and
chairpersons of its standing committees
will constitute the
organization's executive council.
Members of the council are
Roland Douthit, president; Rick
Crawford, executive vice president;
Diane Smart, recording
secretary; Carolyn Ethridge, corresponding
secretary; Deborah
Thompson, treasurer; Pat Minter
and Delores Chaskley, members
at-large; and Marty Penn, public
relations coordinator.

engage the community in meaningful
action and promote selfdetermination
based on sound
social work principals, as well as

Bridesmaids were Mrs. Sandra
Carter, Mrs. Irene Weaks, Miss
Amanda Mumford, all of
Winston-Salem and sisters of the
bride. The bride's neice Miss
Devonshire Mumford of
Winston-Salem, also served as a
bridesmaid.
Best man was Kenneth Rocker.
Ushers were McKinley Tucker,
William Hayes, James Garner
and the bride's nephew, Kevin
Mumford, all of Winston-Salem.

The National Association of
Black Social Workers was founded
May 1, 1968 in San Francisco.
Since then, over 110 chapters
have been established nationwide.
Its national conference
meets yearly to point out and
clarify issues that beset black
Americans everywhere.
Membership on the local level
is encouraged and welcomed. The
organization accepts any individual
who is a black human
services provider and is willing to
accept the goals and code of
ethics of the NABSW.
