Couple renev
Mr. and Mrs. George A. Mitchell
of E. 23rd Street celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary
with a renewal of their nuptial
vows on Saturday, Aug. 4 at Antioch
Christian Church.
The Rev. G.W. Roland performed
the ceremony.
Hosted by their 30 grandchildren
and three greatgrandchildren,
the couple was
later entertained with a reception
dinner in their honor at the Martin
Luther King Recreation
Center.
Both natives of Stokes County,
Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell were married
in Martinsville, Va., in 1934
and moved to Winston-Salem
three years later.
He is a World War 11 army
veteran and a retired 37-year
lobaccoCo. ^
Mrs. Mitchell, a housewife,
raised the couple's seven children
and has devoted much of her time
to the family's grandchildren.
The Mitchells are both
members of Antioch Christian
Church.
The bride was given in marriage
by George L. Mitchell, the
couple's oldest son.
Matron of honor for the
ceremony was the couple's oldest
daughter, Mrs. Hattie Mack.
Bridesmaids were the couple's
daughters, Mrs. Catherine King
and Mrs. Gloria Barber, both of
