Williams is a member of the board of trustees at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a director of the YWCA of Forsyth County and a member of the advisory council for the Office of Women in Economic Development, part of the N.C. Department of Commerce. Women make up more than 50 percent of the work force, the speaker said, but there i? a great disparity in pay between women and men for the same jobs. "Statistics indicate that black women are still on the lowest rung of the pay scale." The future, however, remains bright for women, Williams said. Many gains have been made. As women increasingly move into the main stream of business and industry, their talents, skills and perceptions of the work force will make the working world more responsive to their needs. Williams encouraged black women to work with male partners in business and learn as much as they can about the business so that, if the opportunity presents itself, they can step in and buy or operate the business.
