It's still a statement of

program and the establishment
of a consumer advisory
council to "advise the company
as to ways and means of continuing
high-quality service and production"
but not to "monitor the

Rasheed said the NAACP considers
the statement of principles
as binding as any of the other

because the agreement is not considered
a contract, there is no
legal recourse if the company

"We have no intention of seeking

said.
To measure compliance,
Rasheed said, the NAACP will

Cloud, who is a native of
Winston-Salem, will fill the job

another Winston-Salem native.
Graves resigned from WSSU

of principles uses general
language and has only one
definite goal with a timetable,
Rasheed said he is confident progress
will be made.
"It shows bad favor on their
(Food Lion) part to sign it and
not do anything," Rasheed said.
"W* expect Food Lion to honor
whatever commitment they
made. I feel confident there will
be some opportunity flowing
from that commitment.
"Our position is that if we do
not feel that Food Lion is making
an honest effort, our position is
to do what we did before,"
Rasheed said.
When asked if that meani
another boycott, he said, "1
would not say boycott, but that is
a very real possibility."
To some, the NAACP signed
the statement of principles with
Food Lion because the boycott
