The workshop was held in the [fellowship hall of Galilee Baptist [Church. After a continental [breakfast, sorority president .Alice H, Carter introduced [Bonaparte, who began the [workshop with a discussion of ileadership issues, j “The world is divided into [those who look and those who .are looked at,” said Bonaparte. '“If you are a leader in a power [position, you are looked at. If [you are a follower, or in a [powerless position, you do the [looking. What does this mean? iUeaders are visible. Their actions [are constantly commented upon, [their decisions are held up to [public scrutiny. They have no hiding place. They are admired, [hated, misunderstood, misinter- ,preted, sought after, avoided, 'tested, deferred to and agreed iwith.” ! A question-and-answer period [and discussion of leadership styles followed the first portion bf the workshop. : On leadership style, Bonaparte Said, “Whether you decide to be directive, supportive, challeng ing, or participative, or to delegate decision-making to others, you are ultimately ac countable for the results. The choice of leadership style will de pend on your own preference and on the willingness and readiness of your subordinates to assume inore responsibility.” j The group then participated in an inventory of leadership criteria that revealed each person’s individual style of leadership.
