Prpspnt at thp :phnlnrchin rpppn- „ cent winner of the Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority Scholarship. Pender was presented the scholarship by the local chapter, Chi Chi, during their annual ban quet. The nursing sorority is an organization of registered nurses and nursing students. The organization was founded on Oct. 16, 1932, by Mrs. Aliene C. Ewell, with the assistance of 11 other nurses. The charter chapter was organized at Freemen’s Hospital in Washington, with the double purpose of elevating the plane of nursing and increasing interest in the field of nursing. Present at the scholarship recep tion was her husband Tommy Pender; their four sons, ranging in age from 10 to 2; her parents. After ip Pender is a senior nursing stu dent at WSSU. She is not only a student but a wife and mother. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blackman; her sister, Timike Blackman; the director of the WSSU Nursing Department, Mrs. Sadie Webster, other faculty members of the nursing department and the sorors of Chi Chi. prepare hersdf Pender is an i, ySSU, named America, vice nr '5° nursing president of the sS/"' Association. Mrs. Florie Thompkins, far right, celebrated her 80th birthday on March 5, with a surprise party hosted by her daughter, Mary Taylor, left, and her granddaughter, Florie Roundtree.
