King spoke to the graduates and about 10,000 parents and friends during the university's graduation ceremony. Spending money on Hghting in Central America and things like that make me mad. Can I withhold some of my taxes next year as a protest to the government about its spending practices? A: No. According to Lee Monks, assistant district director for the IRS* people often complain about how their tax money is spent. 4'Generally, these taxpayers protest their tax money being spent on the defense budget, more specifically for weapons,*' says Monks. "Willfully holding back all or any portion of a tax payment is illegal." The IRS says the payment of income taxes is a legal rather than a moral obligation.
