The situations include:
Calling timeout.

a timeout or the break between
quarters.
Attending to an injured
player.
Replacing an injured or disqualified
player.
Or reacting spontaneously to
an outstanding play.
The last one will result in the
greatest controversy because it is
the vaguest" You can bet that
everything from taking a charge
to making a garbage shot will be
outstanding plays in the eyes of
the coaches.
While this is the most significant
rule change, there are several
others: (1) a smaller basketball
for girls; (2) a game-opening
jump ball only, with alternate
possessions for tie-ups; (3) a
player who is fouled on a dunk or
drive can grab the rim to prevent
injury; (4) coaches will be allowed
to call successive timeouts,
and (5) a 19-foot 3-point goal will
be used by one girls conference
and one tournament.
Membership Drive
Norman Joyner, executive
director of the new Winston Lake
YMCA, said membership was up
to 320 after the new facility opened
its doors over the weekend.
Saturday, the day the YMCA
opened, 300 people visited and
125 members used the complex
on Waterworks Road.
"That was good participation
for a first day," Joyner said.
"We feel very good about the
membership drive, too."
Joyner hopes to raise the Y's
membership to 500 by the end of
the week.
The Winston Lake YMCA
replaces the facility on Patterson
Avenue, which closed last Friday.
