Sanders Jr. the contestants will be com- jjjing for cash awards, savings lands, a tiara, a banner and a ijphy, along with sponsorship 0 the Miss National Pre-Teen (ajeant to be held in November iLehigh Acres, Fla. Sanders is being sponsored by 110 local businesses, Mr. and Is. Harvie Wilkerson, Mr. and Is. Norman C. Sanders Sr. and I, and Mrs. Norman C. Sluders Jr. The Miss National Pre-Teen Pageant is the only pageant for Ills ages 8 to 12 in all 50 states, lit District of Columbia, Puerto lira and the Virgin Islands. The (igeant is in its fifth year. The national pageant winner will receive a weeklong vacation for herself and her parents to Hawaii. Celestine Evans of Winston- Salem has been awarded a renewal of her Child Develop ment Associate credential in recognition of outstanding work with preschool children in a group setting. The credential renewal was awarded by the CDA Credential- ing Commission, which is work ing to improve the quality of care provided for youngsters in child care centers. Every candidate for the CDA credential is assessed by a team of four persons, including three from the local community. The team members observe the can- cUdafe working with children and evaluate the caregiver’s com petence in six areas. These areas range from establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment to advanc-, ing the child’s physical and in tellectual growth. She is also a member of the North Carolina Black Leadership Caucus and the Southern Chris tian Leadership Conference, for which she is national co-convenor for the youth rally. An English major with a minor in mass communications. Bridges hopes to attend law school to study communications law. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Bridges of Greensboro and a granddaughter of Louise Jackson of Salisbury and Mr. and Mrs. James “Joy” Bridges of East Spencer. Johanna “Joy” Bridges, a ’^aduate of Greensboro’s James B.
