"... There was no argument in H P
the lounge." H ^ ^^0
Of Francis Lloyd Ramsey, the H 0^^
man who allegedly shot her hus- H H H^^
band, she says: "Evidently, that H Hp _
man had other problems." H ^ 0^^
Siill, there are no traces of bit- H P H ^ H
terness in her voice. When asked H H H H
if she feels any hatred toward the H H.
person who killed her husband, H 9^^^
she immediately says no, then H 9
there is a long pause. H ^^9 t^P
"I feel empty and lost without H 9^ IHJ
my mate," she says. "And I H
. don't feel that my husband did H 9^^^
anything to provoke this action. H ^
"He's (the killer's) going to get
what's coming to him. He may H
not have suffered as much as 1 H
have, but 1 think he's having
some second thoughts about
what he's done."
Mrs. Shaw is strikingly serene.
She even smiles and laughs when H ?pppppM^pp
the memories come - for exam- H
pie, the memory of how she met H 1
her husband when she was a H
Winston-Salem State student H
visiting an aunt in Sumter, S.C. H .v;y:- y
And how they met again in
New York, and he later sent her a H
telegram because h? didn't know H
her phone number. H
Or how they were together last H RV Ip SA
at a PTA meeting the day before H Effi " \
he left for Charleston.
As for the stark reality of the
present, Mrs. Shaw isn't sure H
whether she will attend Francis H
"I haven't decided," she says. I
"If I think I can handle it emotionally,
I probably will." H
Mrs. Shaw also says she fears H BWtffij* t
that Ramsey will not be tried fair- H
ly ? that Southern justice may
prevail, despite the fact that H ^
Ramsey turned himself in to H m
police six hours after the H
shooting. ? O
afraid thir man is going0 B .^r ^
to get off due to some technicality
and wind up serving little to no
time," she says.
As evidence, she points to a
news clipping in which Ramsey's
attorney, Dale Green, contends H
that the eyewitness only heard the H I ji
shots that killed Shaw before he H
fled the scene. rap 41
And she gropes to understand H ^ ^
the meaninglessness of her hus- H AO O r
band's death. H O I
"I would have felt better if so- H - ^ AOf
meone had told me my husband H QT X
had been killed as a result of an H
accident," she says. "It would H
have been better. But to be told H
that he was killed for no apparent H
reason is very hard to accept." H
Mrs. Shaw has not shed a tear H

grief seems etched in her face, but
that's where it stays. She still
smiles when she remembers her
husband. H A ^h.n-rLJ
"I know this is what Len (her H vDOOS

she says, "and I have to be H j | |

I think it is. If leadership H
