Page B4 Winston-Salem Ch LOCAL SPORTS HOF ser By DAVID BULLA Chronicle Sports Editor The Winston-Salem Sportsmen Club closed nominations for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County High School Hall of Fame Monday. The nominations now go on to the screening and selection committees, and the 1987 inductees will be made public April 9. Last year's inductees were William A. "Head" Griffin, a three-sport standout at Atkins in the early '50s; James M. Webster, an all-state flanker at Atkins in the late '40s; Rupert Bell, the first black to serve as director of a city recreation center; Stan "Gabby'* Crews, a wingback for the 1968 Reynolds football team that posted a 10-0 record; Norma Harbin, who at West Forsyth became the first female athletic director at a North Carolina high school, and Homer C. "Joby** Hawn, a longtime high school official. The club is in the final stages of putting together its fifth annual induction ceremony and will hold ? AAU Basketball Amateur Athletic Union basketball practice begins this Saturday at the Winston Lake Family YMCA from 2-4 p.m. The Winston Lake YMCA issponsoring three teams: a 14-, 15and 17-and-under team. The 15-and-under team is mak ing plans to participate in the Durham Invitational Tournament next month. That tourney brings together teams from North Carolina, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
