Page B12 Winston-Salem Chronicle Thursday, October 29, 1987 Area Deaths and Funerals JANIE LEE CLEMENT Janie Lee Clement, 93, of the PellCare Nursing Fa;ility, formerly of Trade Street, died Thursday, Oct. 15, in Forsyth Memorial Hospital. She was born in Mocksville but had lived in Winston-Salem for more than 25 years. Miss Clement was a member of Ephesus Seventh- Day Adventist Church. She is survived by a devoted nephew, Harvey L. Miller of 633 W. 24 1/2 St.; a niece, Fredrika Douglas of Broadway; throe great- nieces, Nancy Adams, Candace Carter and Brenda Galloway, all of Winston-Salem; one great-great-niece, Monica Adams, three great-great-nephews, PFC Don Galloway of Fort Dix, N.J., Enoch Carter Jr, and Travis Carter, both of Winston-Salem; several other iclatites ajid friendsr Services were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church, with Elder Joseph Follette officiating. Burial followed in Ever green Cemetery. Forsyth Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements. JAMES EDWARD LASH SR. James Edward Lash Sr., 101, of 2012 Row St. died Friday, Oct. 16, at his home. He was bom in Old- town Township in Forsyth County but had lived in Winston-Salem for more than 68 years. He was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church, where he had served as deacon and was honored as "Father of the Church." Lash was a retired employee of Weaver Fertilizer Co. He is survived by two sons, James Edward L.ash Jr. and Fred L. Lash, both of Winston-Salem; four daughters, Frances Lash Massey of the home, Kathryn Mitchell, Gloria BuUer, both of Plainfield, N.J., and Savannah Johnson of Rochester, N.Y.; 16 grandchil dren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grand children; several cousins, including Nelia Lash Davis of Belhania; one brother-in-law, Eugene R. Miller of Bethania; several other relatives and friends. Services were held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, at St. Mark Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Ful- wood officiating. Burial followed in Piedmont Memo rial Gardens. Forsyth Funeral Directors was in charge of the funeral arrangements. GOLDEN CLARENCE ELLIS The Rev. Golden Clarence Ellis, 92, of 3335 New Walkertown Road died Thursday, Oct. 22, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Advance and had lived in Winston-Salem for more than 70 years. He was a veteran of World War 1. Ellis was a retired minister in the AME Zion Church. He had served as a pastor in the Statesville and Winston-Salem District at the following churches: Ardmore Station, Hickory Grove, Coulters Grove and Bethlehem. He retired in 1977 after 53 years of Chris tian ministry. Ellis was a retired employee of Wachovia Bank and Trust Co. He was a member of Mount Sinai AME Zion Church in Advance and served there as Sunday school teacher, treasurer and trustee. He is survived by his wife, Sadie M. Ellis of the home; a son and a daughter-in-law. Junior Nathaniel Ellis and Trudy Ellis of Seattle; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred E. Knox and William Knox, Dorothy E. Wynecoff and Donnell Wynecoff, and Olivia E. Morgan and Albert Morgan, with whom he lived; two sisters, Odessa Anderson of Advance and Clara Douglas of Winston- Salem; a family friend, Rosa Gallimore; seven grand children; 14 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; several other relatives and friends. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, at Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church, with the Rev. A. McLean Spaulding and the Rev. Jerry A. Quick officiating. Burial followed in Mount Sinai AME Zion Church Cemetery. Clark S. Brown and Sons was in charge of the funeral arrangements. THOMAS WILLIAM McCORKLE Thomas William McCorkle of 1423 Verdun St. died Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the VA Medical Center in Durham. He was a native of Davidson County. McCorkle was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Lea and Vera Essie McCorkle, both of Greensboro; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Patsy Graham of Winston-Salem; many relatives and friends. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, at Gilmore Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Christopher Young officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Ceme tery. Gilmore Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements. MELVIN LEWIS HUGHES Reece Hughes of Troy; his grandmother, Martha Miller of Winston-Salem; seven uncles; six aunts; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including the L.C.G. Cooper family. Burial followed in Ever green Cemetery. Gilmore Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements. EULA BOST McDANIEL Eula Bost McDaniel of 1821 Locust St. died Sat urday, Oct. 24, at Baptist Hospital. She was a native of Lincolnton. Mrs. McDaniel was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and a member of Kimberly Park Holiness Church. She is survived by one adopted daughter, Naomi Ferguson of Philadelphia; two adopt ed sons, John Charles Lindsay and Robert F. Lindsay, both of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; three sisters, Minnie Rhynehart of Winston-Salem, Aljuana Williams of Baltimore and Alda Lynch of Lincolnton; one brother, Eddie S. Bost of Great Neck, N.Y.; many nieces, nephews, other rela tives and friends. Services were planned for Thursday, Oct. 29. Gilmore Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements. JOHN P. WILLIAMS John P. Williams of 3715 Airport Road died Satur day, Oct. 24. He was a native of Anderson County, S.C., and a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Williams was a member of Faith of God Holiness Church in Walkertown. He is survived by his wife, Margaret C. Williams of the home; one daughter, Mary Lois Reynolds of Kemersville; one son, Johnny M. Williams of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Connie Chapman and Nannie Green, both of Winston-Salem; several other relatives and friends. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Gilmore Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Goode officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Ceme tery. Gilmore Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements. GENEVA MYRTLE BUSH FLEMING Geneva Myrtle Bush Fleming of Lexington died Monday, Oct. 19, at Baptist Hospital. She was a native of Commerce, Ga., and a member of Temple Holiness Church. Mrs. Fleming was a retired nurse’s assistant at Hilltop Home in Linwood. She is survived by four daughters. Ruby Moore of Winston-Salem, Barbara Thorne, Lethia Fuller and Katherine Wansley, all of Lexington; one son, Lawrence Fleming of Lexington; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sis ters, Blondina Hargrave and Millie Fuller, both of Lex ington; many other relatives and friends. Services were held Sunday, Oct. 25, at Temple Holiness Church, with Elder Erley Lunn officiating. Burial followed in Forest Hill Memorial Park Ceme tery in Lexington. Gilmore Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements. EARL B. POSEY SR. Earl B. Posey Sr. of 2926 Old Greensboro Road died Thursday, Oct. 22, at his home. He was a native of Abbeville County, S.C., and a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Posey was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Sunday School Department and the Ladies' Aid. He is survived by his wife, Rosa Lee Posey of the home; two daughters, Dorothy Ann Carethers and Rosa Lee Posey, both of Winston-Salem; seven sons, Rudolph Posey, Rufus Posey, Ernest Paul Posey, Charlie Gus Posey, all of Atlanta, Earl Posey Jr., Robert James Posey and John Posey, all of Winston-Salem; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nettie A. Williams of Bennettsville, S.C., Katie P. Aikens of Baltimore and Virginia P. Royal of Winston-Salem; one brother, Howard Posey of Winston-Salem; many other relatives and friends. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at New Bethel Baptist Church, with Dr. Kenneth R. Williams officiating. Burial followed in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Gilmore Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements. CHARLETTE L. McCULLOUGH Melvin Lewis Hughes of 4962 Wilks Drive died Monday, Oct. 19, at Baptist Hospital. He was a native of Forsyth County. Hughes was an employee of Cooper Enterprise. He is survived by one daughter, Sabrina Cary of Win ston-Salem; his stepmother, Robie L. Hughes, and his father, Milton Hughes Sr.; seven sisters, Melvina Baity, Rosetta Farris, Alice Little, Linda Gentry, Mary McLauring, Magdalene Hughes and Martha Hughes, all of Winston-Salem; nine brothers, Mylon Hughes, Wilbert Hughes, Willie Hughes, Amus Hughes, Milas Hughes, Samuel Hughes, Manda Hughes, all of Win ston-Salem, Marshall Hughes of Charlotte and Mar- Please see Charlette L.
