TERRY BERNARD RICKS 41 Mr. Terry Bernard Ricks of Lexington died Mon day, July 3, at Baptist Hospital. He was a member of Shady Side Presbyterian Church. He was educated in the public schools of Lexington, Old Dunbar School, graduated from Lexington Senior High School in 1967, and graduated from J.C. Smith University with an AB in English. He graduated from Columbia Uni versity with a master's degree in English. He taught at Paul Davidson County Extended Day School in Tyro and P.S. No. 80, Mansula Park, the Bronx, N.Y., and was the North Davidson Teacher of the Year in 1982. He was a member of the Ron Davis Dance Troupe which toured Mexico. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Louise Little john of Lexington; four sisters, Mrs. Jonna Threadg ill of Thomasville, Mrs. Wanda Simmons, Ms. Ann Littlejohn and Mrs. Emma Cole, all of Lexington; five brothers, Mr. Willie G. Thomas of the Bronx* Mr. Bobby Joe Ricks, Mr. Larry D. Ricks, Mr. Dana A. Ricks and Mr. Billy Joe Blakley, all of Lexington; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. ^ Services were held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, at Files Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. F.D. *Betts officiating. Burial followed in Lexington City Cemetery. Gilmore's was in charge of the funeral arrangements. MASTER DAVID LANARD REID JR. ? # ? ' ' ?' Young David Lanard Reid Jr. of 2717 Piedmont Circle was dead on arrival at Forsyth Memorial Hos pital on Sunday, July 9. ? He is survived by his mother, Ms. Robin M. Ingram; his father, Mr.D avid L. Reid Jr. of Winston Salem; his grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth A. Tread well; his paternal grandmother, MrsiXlaretta Reid of Winston-Salem; hU^odmoihexs^-Msr-^wlnna^ -?tfrethers~^ffd MsTLaverne Carethers of Winston Salem; a devoted aunt, Ms. Tawanda Treadwell; many other relatives and friends. COUNTS SR. Mr. Clarence W. Counts Sr. of the Pell Care ^Nursing Facility died Monday, July 3, at the facility. He was bom in Augusta, Ga., and had lived in Win ston-Salem for a number of years. He attended the local public schools and was a graduate of Winston Salem State University. Mr. Counts was a retired employee of Merrill Lynch Co. of New York City. He is survived by two daughters, Miss Claryce Counts of Winston-Salem and Mrs. Patricia C. Sampson of Chicago; two sons, Mr. Clarence W. Counts Jr. of Orlando, Fla., and Mr. Leo Counts of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Betty C. Joyce and Mrs. Johnsie C. Dixon, both of Winston-Salem* and Mrs. Etta C. Burton of Wash ington; one aunt, Mrs. Luvenia Barkman of Newber ry, S.C.; one uncle, Mr. Junie Counts of Newberry; three nieces; two nephews; two grand-nieces; two grand-nephews; one daughter-in-law; two brothers in-law; several other relatives and friends. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, at Gilmore Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Milford Rhodes officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery. Gilmore's was in charge of the funeral arrangements. MR. EARNEST LEE PADEN Mr. Earnest Lee Paden, 48, of 515 Alexander St. died Wednesday, July 5, at his home. He was a for mer member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was a ? native of Winston-Salem and had lived here all his life. He was a retired employee of the Winston Salem/Forsyth County school system. He fs survived by one si^jer, Ms. Anne Paden of Winston-Salem; two aunts, Mrs. Ida Mae McKinney of the home and Mrs. Inez Mc Kinney of Boston; a devoted friend, Ms. Patricia Southerland; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services were held at 4 p.m. on Monday, July 10, at the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Hedgley officiating. Ryan Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements. MRS. MARiAH S. WILLIAMSON Mrs. Mariah Samuels Williamson of 4221 Jas min Court died Sunday, July 2, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 10, 1907, to the late Rosanna R. Samuels and Walsh Samuels in Darling ton County, S.C. She married the late Johnny Williamson and to this union 10 children were born. She moved to Winston-Salem in July 1964 and joined Macedonia True Vine Pentecostal Holiness Church. She served in Sunday School Adult Bible Class No. 1 and the Female Chorus until her health failed. She was employed by the Hanes family for a number of years and she also did sewing in her home. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Sadie Brown of Oklahoma City, with whom she lived until her health failed, Mrs. Alma Williamson and Ms. Ethel Hair of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three sons, Mr. Howard Williamson, Mr. Tommy Williamson and Mr. Sammy Williamson of Winston-Salem; two sis ters, Mrs. Luggenia Williamson of Darlington and Mrs. Annie Mae McCall of Brooklyn; four brothers, Mr. Tommy Samuels of New York City, Mr. Levi Samuels, Mr. Johnny Samuels and Mr. James Samuels, all of Darlington; three daughters-in-law, Ms. Ruby Williamson, Ms. Beatrice Williamson and Ms. Gwendolyn Williamson of Winston-Salem; two sons-in-law, Mr. Ervin Williamson of Winston Salem and Mr. Frank Jones of Brooklyn; 38 grand children; 51 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; Services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 7, at Macedonia True Vine Pentecostal Holiness Church of God Inc., with Bishop S.D. EDWARD MICHAEL JONES Mr. Edward Michael Jones, 36, better known as Mike, of 1647 Brown St. died Wednesday, July 5, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. He was born to Charlie and Edna Peterson Jones on Dec. 12, 1952. He attended the local public schools and graduated from Atkins Senior High School in 1971. On March 13, 1980, he married Anna M. Frierson. He was a mem ber of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and a former member of the Sunday school. He was a for ^ mer employee of Lentz Moving and Storage Co. He is survived by his wife, Ms. Anna M. Jones of the home; his grandmother, Mrs. Annie B. Peter son of Winston-Salem; two stepdaughters, Ms. Maria Frierson and Ms. Hattie Aaron of Winston Salem; five stepsons, Mr. Barry Spates, Mr. Larry Spates, Mr. Jeffrey Frierson, all of Winston-Salem, Sgt Lewis Frierson of Kaneole Bay Marine Base, Hawaii, and Mr. Derrick Frierson of Asheville; three sisters, Ms. Linda J, McGill, Ms. Marcia Jones, both of Winston-Salem, and Ms. Christine Jones of Walk ertown; three brothers, Mr. Curtis Jones of Greens boro, Mr. Charlie J. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. S.L. Hodges officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery.
