Rutledge recently report ed for duty aboard the battleship USS Iowa, bafced in Norfolk, Va. A 1989 graduate of West Forsyth High School, he is the son of Doris A. Rutledge of Winston Salem. He joined the Navy in June 1989. -Apprentice. Jerry Till man recently returned from a six-month deployment to the Persian Gulf while serving aboard the guided missile frigate USS Ford, based in Long Beach, Calif. During the deployment, Sea man Tillman participated in "surveillance and mine counter measure support operations and numerous escort operations involving rcflagged Kuwait tankers. Seaman Tillman also made port visits to Hong Kong, Phuket, .Thailand; Columbo, Sri Lanka; .Cochin, India; Singapore; Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines; and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. . A 1988 graduate of North Forsyth High School, he is the son of Jonas B. Tillman of Winston Salem. Seaman Tillman joined the Navy in OCtober 1988. ? Navy Seaman Recruit Henry I. Lewis has completed recruit training at Recruit Training Com mand in Orlando, Fla. During Seaman Lewis' eight week training cycle, he studied general military subjects designed to prepare him for further aca demic and on-the-job training. His studies included seaman ship, close order drill, naval histo ry and first aid. A 1988 graduate of Glenn High School, he is the son of ? Shirley and Henry I. Lewis Jr. of Winston-Salem. Seaman Lewis joined the Navy in July. Navy Seaman Recruit Mary T. Timbers has completed recruit training at Recruit Training Com mand in Orlando, Fla. During her eight-week train oing cycle, Seaman Timbers stud ied general military subjects designed to prepare her for further academic and on-the-job training. __ Her studies included scaman ship, close order drill, naval histo ry and first aid. Seaman Timbers is the niece of Delphine Williams of Winston Salem. Navy-Petty-Officer 3rd Class Tommy A. Springs recently deployed to the Mediterranean Sea while serving aboard the air craft carrier USS Forrestal, based in Mayport, Fla. During the six-month deploy ment, Officer Springs will visit numerous countries including Spain, France, Italy, Israel, Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt. He also will participate in various Sixth Fleet and NATO exercises in the region. A 1984 graduate of Parkland High School, he joined the Navy in May. He is the son of Priscilla A.
