Local APA chapter elects new officers >' The Omicron Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraterni ty Inc. recently elected the following officers for the 1990-91 year: Melvin Mauney, president; William Phillips, vice president; Chuck Wallington, corresponding secretary; John Canty, recording secretary; and Robert Neal, treasur er. Other officers include Warren Leggett, dean of pledges;1 DeValdean Penn, chaplain; Marshall Hairston, director of educational activities; Wilton Donneli, historian; Sam Puryear, sergeant-at-arms; and Steve Ramsey, parliamentarian. "We're looking forward to a productive year,* says Mauney, who also served as the chapter's president from 1985-1988. "We encourage * graduate brothers in the area who are not affiliate with a chapter to consider affiliating with us." Omicron Gamma Lambda was founded in 1985 as the 614th gradu ate chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fra ternity, Inc. Alpha Phi Alpha Fra ternity, the oldest black Greek-letter organization for college-trained men, was founded in 1906 on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. HAUSER Special to the Chronicle Throngs of relatives, friends, public figures, and fans jammed the Sawtooth Building Tuesday evening, Aug. 1, to see, greet, and express best wishes to actress-pro ducer Fay Hauser-Price and her husband, Louis Price, a musician and composer. Van Nuys, Calif., were married in July of last year, but this was their first visit home and to the Win ston-Salem area since their mar riage. Fay's parents, Dr. and Mrs. C. B. Hauser, took advantage of the visit to stage the reception in her and her husband's honor. On hand to assist in receiving and making welcome those who came to the reception were a num ber of Fay's relatives and some close friends of the Hauser family. Relatives were identified by pink corsages, and friends by white " corsages. or boutonnieres. Background music for the occasion was furnished by Mr. Bill's- Productions^ A. large- ice~ carving of two love birds by - - piece for the centrals food table. Beverage stations were at each end of the room. The two formal activities of the evening were passing through the receiving line and cutting the ; cake. The remainder of the evening was devoted to food, fel ; lowship, and fun. The receiving line consisted of Ms. Louise Smith, directress; Dr. and Mrs. C. B. Hauser; Mr. and Mrs. John V. Price, Louis' parents; and Fay and Louis, the honorees. Winston-Salem residents in attendance included Judge and Mrs. Roland Hayes, President and Mrs. Bob Greene, Mrs. Frances Ross Coble, Dr. and Mrs. J. D. Branch, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Davis, Mr. A1 Beatty, Mr. and Mrs. Beaufort Bailey, Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Friende, and Attor ney James L. and Mrs. Lassiter. Among those enjoying the fellowship who came from other towns in North Carolina were: Mr. and Mrs. Edsel Dacons of Statesville, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hairston of Walnut Cove, Dr. and Mrs. Spencer Durante of Char lotte, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fields, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Linney and Dr. Marian Vick of Greensboro, and Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Russell and Mrs. Dora H. Wallace of Yad kinvflle. Participants in the reception ? from out of the state included Mrs. William Mapp of Mansfield, Louis, who reside in Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lumpkins, Mrs. Ardell H. Gray, Mr. and Mrs/ Henry Price, and Ms. Thelma Ferguson of Danville, Virginia; Mrs. Cecelia McDaniels Brown of California; Miss Doris Epperson of Washington, DC; Mrs. Madeline Hamlin Shepper son of Alexandria, Virginia; Mrs. Malachi Duncan of Whitestone, South Carolina; Mrs. Doris H. Elliott of Hyattsville, Maryland; and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph <3unn and Mr. Haywood Price of Chica go, Illinois. A very proud group at the reception was some of the mem bers of Fay's Anderson High School class. Former classmates included Cecelia McDanicls Brown, Mabel Allen Perry; Doris Epperson, William McClain, Nor man Williams, Madeline Hamlin Shepperson, Cheryle Bradshaw Super, Annette Scippup,J3aylc Bullock, and Myra Allen Shore. During their visit East, Fay and Louis attended family reunions in Yadkinville and in Decatur, Georgia.
