Ms. Linda Darnell Hairston, age 46, of 5444 Dorchester St., Chicago, Ill. died Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Cook County Hos pital, Chicago. She was a native of Winston-Salem and a 1965 graduate of WSSU. She began her teaching career in the Chicago pubhc school system and taught in the Evanston Public Schools for 10 years. At the time of her death, she worked at the African-American DuSable Museum, She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Eva Hairston of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Mrs Clara Pate of Chicago, Ill., Ms, Debra H, Holmes and Mrs. Pamela H. Glenn of Winston-Salem; three brothers-in-law; two nieces; four nephews, eight aunts; and many cousins, other relatives and friends. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5. at Mt. Hope Cemetery, with Dr. Brenda H. Heffner officiating. Bunal followed in the cemetery. Barker Mortuary, Chicago, Ill., was in charge of the funeral arrangements. MS. He was bom on March 20, 1972 in Winston-Salem. He was a Senior at East Forsyth High School and was on the Varsity Football Team. He was a member of Union Bethel AME Church where he was a member of the Morning Glory Choir and the Y.P.D. Youth Organization. He is survived by his mother and father, Mr. Calvin and Mrs. Beverly McMillan of the home; one sister and one brother, Ms. Chandra McMillan and Mr. Christopher D MacmiUan of the home; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Venetia Henry Ellison of Winston-Salem; paternal grandmother, Dollie Gray Macmillan of Winston-Salem; foster grand mother, Mary Jane Henry of Winston-Salem; a devoted friend, Nkecia Rucker of Winston-Salem; 10 aunts; nine uncles; and many cousins, other relatives and friends. He was a native of Bessamer, Ala., but resided in Chicago, Ill. for a number of years before moving to Winston-Salem about two years ago. He was a retired employee of Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. where he was Director of Training. Mr. Oden was a graduate of Miles College and did post-graduate work at Wayne University and the University of Michigan with emphasis in business and law. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Social Promotions, Listed in Who’s Who in N.C., Black America and Midwest America. Mr. Oden was a former President of National Insurance.
