Page B4 Winston-Salem Chronicle Thursday, May 2, 1991 Finalists named for Shelton Scholarship Chronicle Staff Report Eight seniors in the Winston- Salem/Forsyth County school system have been selected as fmahsts for the annual Bruce Shelton Scholarship, a $4,000 award. The finalists are; Jennifer Hol land, North Forsyth; William Turner, Carver; Mickey Woodlief, Parkland; Sharon Reid, East Forsyth; Lamar Joyner, Glenn; Lear Haulsee, Jennifer Holland Reynolds; Eusi Jordan, Mount Tabor; and Teke Tabor, West Forsyth, The scholarship is named for the late Bruce Shelton, an outstanding stu dent and athlete who graduated from Parkland Fligh School in 1969. Shelton William Turner died in January 1987, at age 35, of a heart attack. The scholarship, which is recognized as the largest, locally-fund ed award available to a student in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system, was established by his friends. Mickey Woodlief classmates, and business associates to annually recognize the top student ath lete in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system. Lamar Joyner, son of Cynthia Joyner, has a 3.56 GPA at Glenn High School and is ranked 9th out of 245 students. He is a member of the National Honor Society and named to Who's Who Among American High School Students. He has been president of his class in grades 10-12 and was named "1990 Male Athlete of the Year” by the Winston-Salem Chroni cle. He plans to attend N. C. State Uni versity, majoring in Engineering. Jennifer Holland, daughter of Perry and Teresa Creed, has a 3.79 GPA at North Forsyth High School and is ranked 3rd out of 314 students. She is vice president of North's National Honor Society, a member of the Spanish National Honor Society, and a member of the "Valkyries," North's drill team. She is president of the Spanish Club and a volunteer at Brenner Children's Hospital and the American Red Cross. She plans to attend UNC-Chapel Hill, majoring in Pre-Medicine. Teke Tabor, son of Charles and Carole Tabor, has a 3.72 GPA at West Forsyth High School and is ranked 17tli out of 324 students. He is presi dent of West Forsyth's National Honor Society and a National Merit finalist. He is active in the Key Club and Stu dents Against Drunk Driving. News editor of the school newspaper, he plans to attend UNC-Chapel Hill, majoring in Pre-Medicine. Eusi Jordan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Jordan, has a 3.22 GPA at Mt, Tabor High School and is ranked 69th out of 318 students. He is a member of Mt. Tabor's National Honor Society and won the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Human Relations Award in his senior year. President of his senior class, he is All-City/County in football and All-Conference in wrestling. He has been accepted at West Point Mili tary Academy, majoring in Electrical Engineering. Lear Haulsee, son of Ronald and Hada Haulsee, has a 3.67 GPA at Reynolds High School and is ranked 10th out of 274 students. He is a mem ber of Reynolds National Honor Soci ety and the Spanish Honor Society and won the National Hispanic Scholar Award his senior year. Vice president of the Student Government Associa tion, he is captain of the football team and All-Conference his junior and senior years. He plans to attend Duke University, majoring in Pre-Medicine. William Turner, son of William and Vivian Turner, has a 3.27 GPA at Carver High School and is ranked 11th out of 247 students. He is a member of the National Honor Society and of Who's Who Among American High School Students. All-City/County and All-Conference in track and cross country, he is captain of the track team and a member of the Debate Team. Vice president of the student body, he plans to attend Morehouse College, ence and two-time All-State in wrestling and captain of the wrestling team. All-Conference in soccer and soccer team co-captain, he plans to attend N. C. State University, majoring Eusi Jordan Teke Tabor Lear Haulsee Dewayne Lamar Joyner Sharon Reid majoring in Physics/Engineering. Mickey Woodlief, son of James and Liana Woodlief, has a 3.80 GPA at Parkland High School and is ranked 4th out of 250 students. A member of Parkland's National Honor Society, he is president of the German Club and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is three-time All- Confer- in Engineering. Sharon Reid, daughter of Zane and Betty Reid, has a 3.08 GPA at East Forsyth High School and is ranked 65th out of 317 students. A member of East Forsyth's National Honor Society, she is lettered in varsity track and field. She is president of the youth group at Kernersville Wesleyan Church and winner of the North Car olina Federation of Women's Clubs' Art Award. She plans to attend UNC- Greensboro, majoring in Education.
