Led her conference in steals and was second in assists (5.4 a game). Along the ?way, broke several school freshman records. Averaged 12.7 points and 4.2 rebounds a game. Lisa Rice 5-3 Guard Norfolk State CIAA Tournament MVP, made con ference's all-tourney team and All-CIAA. Started all 32 games for the CIAA tour nament champion Spartanettes. Averaged 8.6 points, 7.4 assists and 3.3 steals per outing. A key reason why Norfolk went 25-7 and earned a berth in the NCAA Division n playoffs. Georgia Coefleld 5-8 Forward Livingstone College A true bright spot in an otherwise down year for the Lady Bears. CIAA Rookie Of The Year. Scored 18.9 points and pulled down 8.6 rebounds a night. Also averaged 3.6 assists and 4.9 steals per game. Alvlta Williams 5-1 0 Center Fayettevllle State Started 20 of 21 games and tallied 12.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.7 steals a game. UMES fin ished the year at 17-10 overall and 11-3 in league play. Also named Coach Of The Year in the MEAC Dr. Btverly Downing - St. Aug's COLLEGE DIVISION Beverly Downing St. Augustine's The CIAA Coach Of The Year guid ed her team to a scintillating 21-1 record during the regular season. In addition, the Lady Falcons received their first-ever bid to the NCAA Division II playoffs after coming through as the CIAA Tournament runners-up. SAC ended the year at 23-3. College Division Precious Morris 5-8 Guard Claflln College NAIA District VI Player Of The Year, EIAC Conference Player Of The Year and tournament MVP. Led her team in assists (4.2 a game) and steals (4.2 a game), while scoring 19 ppg and pulling down 5.3 rpg. Also named MVP at U& Virginia State Invitational for Black CoU leges. Paved the way for her team to record a 28-2 record. Carmella Blood saw 5-7 Guard Alabama A&M SLAC scoring champion (23 ppg) led the nation in three-point goals made (102). Second in the conference in three point percentage (.371). SI AC All-Tour nament, All-SIAC pick. Also averaged 2.7 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 steals per contest. Carolyn Brown 5-8 Guard St. Augustine's CIAA Player Of The Year, CIAA All-Tournament, All-CIAA. Averaged 22.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 5.2 steals a game. Recorded one triple double this past season (16 points, 12 rebounds, 10 steals). Alsohad six double doubles (points and rebounds). Mabel Sanders _ 6-3 Center Savannah State ? SI AC Player Of The Year led the nation in rebounding for the second year in a row at 14.7 a game. Shot 64.3 per cent from the field and averaged 21 ppg. All-SIAC, All-SIAC Tournament selec tion. Led team to a 20-9 record and a share of the league's Eastern Region title. Hycynthia Spells 6-1 Forward Norfolk State Averaged 20.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.1 steals per outing. In the process, shot 51 percent from the field and 77 per cent from the free throw line. Made the all-conference and all-tournament teams at the league tournament.
