UL begins new family program The Winston-Salem Urban League has been awarded a grant from Children's Trust Fund for the fiscal year 1992 93 to work with African- Ameri can families. This year 27 projects were funded in three categories ? community planning grants, consortium on positive disci pline, and support programs for parents, ""g These projects aim to help prevent child abuse and neglect by focusing on providing sup port, education or special ser viced families need. In the new side by side program, the Win ston-Salem Urban League will work With 30 African-Ameri Cfcft families to enhance the bonding, emotional ties, com munication skills and parent coping skills to strengthen the systems. These families; will be organized into support , systems, including extended families. Weekly meetings will t>e held to introduce these indi* ;; vlduals to culturally-specific ""parenting styles and stages of development for their children. Bonham Jr. will cele brate his first pastoral anniversary at the First Baptist Church in Thomas vi lie. Dr. W.E. Martin, pastor of Cedar Creek. Baptist Church in Mocksville will be the guest speak er. The Rev. B.H. Bonham's father, Dr. B.H. Bonham, pastor and founder of Pitts Memorial Baptist Church in Winston-Salem will serve as mister of ceremonies. The Rjv. B.H. Bonhani Jr. is the son of L)r B.H. and Fannie Bonham. He attended Forsyth County Schools and was elected the first black co-captain of the North-South Carolina Shrine Bowl in 1969. Bon ham attended N.C. Central Univer sity but graduated from Shaw Uni versity where he earnedf a B.A. degree in pre-theology. He is also the former pastor of Forbush Bap tist Church in Yadkinville.
