Television Hypnosis is a Reality Under the right circum stances, people can be led to believe almost anything. Aspects of the world in George Orwell's "1984" are in place here in America. Psychological warfare has been waged through the control of mass media and the altering of our education. Understanding the brainwashing techniques employed and knowing who is in control of influencing our thinking and what isjJie ultimate goal of this assault are vital to the well-being of this nation. Think of the times you have caught yourself staring blankly at the television screen, losing all sense of time and place. When you stop conscious think ing and your mind goes blank, this is the hypnotic state of mind. I Watching television often produces an altered state of con sciousness. Though not con sciously perceived, the TV screen, while appearing static, actually flickers. Any repeating light or sound pattern can lead one into an altered state. A hyp notist uses patterned speech by varying the pacing and inflec tion of his voice to induce this state of mind in his subject. It is in this state of mind where one is the most receptive to mental programming, * Whether or not the information takes hold in the mind depends on two factors: trust in the source of the information and repetition of the message. Trust in the source of the information induces acceptance of the message as true even if it is not understood. Repetition of the message embeds it in the subconscious so that acceptance of its truth and accuracy becomes a conditioned response. Think for a moment about the- way newscasters speak and you vyill realize that they all talk the sqjpe way re&ardless of their ethnic background. Whether they be Black, White, Hispanic, or Oriental, with few excep tions, they all sound alike. The patterned speech of a newscaster is similar to that of a hypnotist. The eye contact made with the viewer is also a hypnotic tech nique. Emotions can be stirred, attitudes and states of mind revealed by nuances oFlone and variation in vocal quality. The camera can reveal the smallest movement or the most subtle change of expression and give it significance and definition. Is is possible to program an entire population to respond to certain words, images, vocal qualities, body movements, ges tures, and expressions? The result of such programming would be a population that is highly suggestible, a population that can be manipulated with precision. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but it also can deceive one into believing ?something that is not true. With a selective use of camera angles and judicious editing, it is sim ple to distort the meaning of what someone says or the mean ing of an event. The practice of staging events and employing imperson ators of political figures was often used by the early newsreel companies. During the Mexican Revolution in 1914, arrange ments were made with Pancho Villa to fight his battles in day light and to wait until the cam NATO headquarters in Naples investigated the use of film to train servicemen who were not inclined to kill to be able to do so. Films were screened which showed people being maimed or killed violently to desensitize the men to those acts. A pro gressively more graphic depic tion of violence in movies, tele vision, and music desensitizes people, especially young people, to real-life violence and increas es tension, anxiety, and fear so that the public demands that government do something. By causing emotional stress and mental confusion, judgment is impaired and suggestibility increased. Under these conditions, peo ple can be manipulated into allowing their rights to be diminished while governmental SSI MIND CONTROL USED QN UNSUSPECTING PUBLIC By Steven Jacobson eras were in place before launching his attack. It is known that events were stage-managed to rally public opinion for the Persian Gulf War. Remember the Kuwaiti refugee girl who testified to atrocities of infants being dumped from their incubators and left to die. These charges were not substantiated, and she-^ was later revealed to be the daughter of Kuwait's ambas sador to the U.S. The capacity to lie with a picture and be unde tected has been greatly enhanced by modern computer technology. A report released in 1982 by the National Institute of Mental Health said, "violence on televi sion does lead to aggressive behavior by children and teenagers who watch the pro grams." Dr. Thomas Narut from the U.S. Naval Hospital at authority expands. Inducing stress and neuroses is a strategy of psycho-political warfare. The same strategy applies to other issues. For example, the issue of race has been and con tinues to be a sensitive topic for African Americans and white America. It is for this very rea son that it lends itself well to manipulation in order to direct and control the thinking and behavior or both target groups. "Divide and conquer" is an ancient political adage. Machi avellian politics is well under stood in the halls of government and high finance, but not so well understood by the people who are subject to their actions. Nic colo Machiavelli, sixteenth cen tury political theorist, promoted the doctrine that mortality had no relevance in political matters, that deceit was justified in pur suing and maintaining political power. The primary means of con trolling people is the absolute control of information. There could be no effective propagan da without mass media nor could there be effective propa ganda without education. The consolidation of ownership of the press, publishing, radio, TV, and film makes the coordination of propaganda possible. Education conditions the mind with vast amounts of information disguised as facts and knowledge and dispensed for ulterior motives. The idea that deception has become an integral part of the social frame work of society is a difficult idea for some people to accept. Neverthe less, an examination of the idea is worthy of our serious consideration. According to our survey of 1 ,269 youths in Forsyth County, about 70 percent have been pregnant at least once by age 20! By the time they are 15, more than half of all black males, a third of the black females, about a third of the white males and a quarter of the white females are sexually active. Even more alarming is the growing number of pre-teens having sex. Thirty percent of the 1 2 year-olds we surveyed said they'd had sex.
