talk with us."
Burke added Tuesday that the
interview with Sheppard and the
four-member search committee was
"totally informal." Sheppard left a
resume with the committee which
states that he is employed at
Williams College - "1988 to pre
sent."
"I was under the impression
that he was still at Williams," Burke
said.
The interview with Sheppard
centered "around more or less philo
sophical issues," Burke explained.
Besides Burke, the search com
mittee includes A1 Roseboro, the
university's athletic director, Dr.
Gerald McCants and Walter Mar
shall, an alumnus and Winston
Salem school board member.
Kwanzaa
"This is a great way for African
Americans to celebrate our heritage,
44 Ben Piggott said. "We need to do
this so that African American people
will know that we love and respect
one another and that we all have
importance in this world."
There will also be a celebration
of Kwanzaa sponsored by the East
Winston Branch Library and the
Diggs Art Gallery on Thursday,
Dec. 3J, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the
gallery on the campus of Winston -
Salem State University. The Diggs
Gallery is located on the ground
floor of the O'Kelly Library. Bring
the entire family and your favorite
covered dish.
Marshall was also under the
impression that Sheppard was still
working for Williams College.
"He told us he was on a layover
between flights and was in a hurry
to get back to his job," Marshall
said.
But Sheppard simply said he
answered the questions putjlo him.
"My resume hadn't- been
updated, but if they had asked me
specific questions about it, I would
have volunteered the information."
The deadline for receiving
resumes was Dec. 30, and Burke said
Tuesday that the committee had
received 26. They hope to have that
number down to three by Jan. 5.
Those three names will then be sent
to Chancellor Cleon Thompson,
Burke said.
