Strengthen Family Ties In The New Year
As we approach 1993 think

piness as a by-product.
If you answered yes to all parts
of all five questions, you are an
excellent family member. If you
answered yes to all parts of any 4
questions, you are a good family
member. If you answered yes to all
parts of any 3 questions, you are
fair. If you fell below 3, then you
are a poor family member indeed.
Please bear in mind that this test
was taken purely for pleasure to
encourage listeners to take a look at
themselves as family members.
say tlthank you." I really appreciate
your sacrifice. Are you always
sticking your hand out wanting
something without ever sharing in
the family responsibilities, if you
are physically able to do so? If you
are ill or elderly or cannot help for
some other legitimate reason, do
you ever take time to express appre
ciation? 5) What have you invested
in your family within the last five
years? This does not have to be a
momentary investment. Have you
invested things such as: A) Encour

terrific job. B) Do you senil ca> Is on

Each member of a family has a
unique role to play in making the
family a healthy place for growth of
human personality. For parents it
may mean getting into a discussion
group with other parents or getting
professsional help. For children it
may mean sincere cooperation to
make the family stronger. For in
laws and grandparents it may mean
learning the difficult discipline of
listening to family members without
taking sides or giving advice.
The basic question is, "What is
human maturity worth?" Are the
members of my family worth the
investment of time and interest that
must be made in order to develope
them closer to fulfillment?
One final reminder from
research: A great many of those
who diligently try to find human
maturity within the family gain hap
strengthen family ties. If you have
an excellent family, a good family
or even one that is fair, you should
consider yourself among the most
fortunate citizen of America.
Few people realize the true
value of a family, because they are
always concentrating on the faults
and shortcomings of other family
members without even stopping to
look at themselves.
Before you complain about
your family not being close and not
showing any interest in you, you
might want to take this family quiz
that I have prepared to test the
extent of your own interest in your
family. Remember, each question
has several parts. 1. How often do
you call your. In the city , relatives?
Do you ever call your out of the city
relatives, or do you always depend
on them to do all the calling? Do
you call your relatives in town A)
Once per week? B) Once per
month?; C) Once every 3 months?
D) More often than any time men
tioned on the list that you just read?
2. Do you share in and rejoice over
the successes of your family mem
bers and let them know how you
feel about their success? 3) Do you
share in your family's disappoint
ments and illnesses? Do you call
during their crises and really mean
what you say when you ask them
what you can do to help in a time of
distress?
Or, do you wait until your fam
ily has solved the problem and them
talk about "Oh I would have done
