Unit's Grade "A" Tournament on
the weekend of Feb. 19-21! You
will not want to miss this event! It
will be special! Plans have been
made to make this a most reason
able and enjoyable event. You must
learning to play bridge, for what
ever reasons, to learn the game.
Those who are interested, should
contact one of the local bridge
teachers. A class could be started in
late Feb. If you have any problems,

This month, public television
stations nationwide will begin airing
a series of 60-second moments
called "The Frght For Civil Rights."
Fach moment., hosted by actor Mor
gan Freeman, focuses on a different
aspect or historical event in the civil
riehts movement of the 50's and
60' s. The y relate directly to the per
manent exhibits at the National
Civil Rights Museum, locate on the
<ide of the Lorraine Motel in Mem
phis. Tenn.. where Martin Luther
King Jr.. was. assassinated in 1%K.
"The Fight For Civil Rights"
moments contain remembrance and
comments of individual who were
actively involved in the fight for
civil rights and who have continued
efforts to make America a laud of
equal opportunity ? people like Dr.
Benjamin L. Hooks, Congressman
John Lewis of Georgia. Dr. Charles
F. McDcw, and sinner Peter Seeger.

founded to keep alive the struggle
that changed the course of our

All- American Pageant to be staged

nary to Miss Teen All-American,
now in it's fifteenth year, staged

Jr. has officially named Fred A.
Burke vice chancellor for'business
affairs, a position Burke has held on
an interim basis since September

Burke, who succeeds Willie E.
Grissom. has occupied several
financial positions at WSSU since
fie began working there in 1968.

"We're delighted to end this
search with someone who has been
working on fiscal matters at WSSU
for some years." Thompson said on
January 10 The appointment was
endorsed recently by the university
trustees and was approved b\ the
UNC Board of Governors.
"Burke is not afraid to make a-^
decision ? popular or unpopular."
Thompson added.
As the chief financial officer of
the university. Burke is responsible
for the overall operation of several
areas, including accounting/report
ing, budgeting, personnel, human
relations, purchasing, campus police
and auxiliary services/enterprises.
Thompson said that: "A signifi
cant number" of applicants had
expressed interest in the job, "hut
we could nor find the 'appropriate?

applicants."

Inc. (WIMSA) is continuing its
national campaign to locate and reg
ister women veterans, active duty
personnel. National Guard and
Reserves. In conjunction with Black
History Month. February 199.1.
WIMSA ask national news organi
zations to support them in their
search for women veterans.
WIMSA was authorized by
Congress in 1986 to build the
Memorial in Washington. D.C. to
honor the women who have served
the United States military since the
American Revolution. A unique fea
ture o'f the Memorial will be the

base containing the photos, military
history and memorable experiences
of the 1.8 million women who have
served throughout history .'The
search is underway tor the women
(or her descendants) who can tell
the stones which will finally docu
ment the role of women in the fntti
