Goler Men Act As Positive Role >lodel On Sunday Jan. 31. the men of Goler Mctropoli tan A M.E. Zion were triumphant 1 n celebration ana" reminders of their commitment and responsibility to mankind. The Rev.i Seth O. Larrey delivered a moving, enthusiastic and spirited message entitled "God's Man for God's Pro gram." He also called upon the con gregation to know who we are and to be knowledgeable of our origins. The pastor and congregation congratulated " Mr. Goler 1993." Thomas R. Morgan, and were most appreciative to the captains who served for this year's event. They were: Robert L. Scales; Roderic J. Young; William Gregory Knox; Herman M. Burney; Donnell Wynecoff; Thomas R. Morgan; J. Vinson Dewberry; Harry L. Hender son; James C. Parks; and Bruce V. Topping. Bemice Davenport directed the Goler Coraliers in renditions of :Peace in The Valley^. and "Bless This House." D.W. Andrews Jr. provided a special selection. "Make Me an Instrument." Norman Dunlap coordinated a light reception fol lowing the program. Robert Thomp son Jr. and Calvin W. McDougal presided and were co-chairmen for the service. Goler Metropolitan is pastored by a visionary pastor. Dr. James McAnhur Sloan, who with the con gregation welcomes all to weekly services. Matthews) A Portrait Of African-American Achievements At 4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 21. the Christian Education Committee of Grace Presbyterian Church, 3901 Carver School Road, will present its annual observance program for African- American month. The theme is "Advances in Education, Ethics and Religion and Public Ser vice." The Rev. Dr. Samuel Steven son is pastor. The African-American annual observance was started by Carter G. Woodson, the founder of the Asso ciation for the Study of Negro Life and History. Today we have new leaders and achievers such as Maya Angelou. Ron Brown, Richard C. Ervin. Melvin Watt. Belinda Foster and the late Thurgood Marshall. A. Louisa L. Foy and Bettye Hannon will direct the combined Grace Choirs in songs of inspiration and hope of the African-American Experience. Graduates of colleges from WSSU. Bennett. Johnson C. Smith and Knoxville will reflect upon their experiences Jhat are designed to encourage youth toward careers and training opportunities. Dr. Olasufe O. Ovelaran, coor dinator of international programs at Winston-Salem State University, a native and former teacher in Nige ria, will deliver the address. Dr. Alonzo T. Stephens Sr.. chairman of the program, extends an invitation to the community to participate in this unique educational and spiritual endeavor. Church Celebrates Fellowship Bible Baptist Church, located at 1611 Locust St., will celebrate the anniversary of Pastor Otha L. Richardson on Sun day Pastor Richardson received the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior in 1965. received God's call to preach the gospel and was ordained on Sept. 17, 1978. He founded Fellowship Bible Baptist Church in 1979. His wife is Ernes tine Richardson. For the past 14 years. Pastor Richardson has boldly and faithfully preached and taught God's w.of4K' His strong desire to see people saved through belief in Jesus Christ is evident in his messages. Rev. Lloyd Price of Eden. N.C. will be the guest speaker for 1 1 a.m. and 3 p.m. services. The public is welcome to come and worship. Tribute To Honor Local Musicians Pastor Otha L. Richardson The Ad Hoc Committee for his toric preservation would like to invite you to a "Musical Tribute" for contributing musicians in Win ston-Salem.
