t? Zion Hill Ba] Religion The pastor's aid committee of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2920 N. Greenway Ave., will celebrate its anniversary on Sunday at 4 p.m. The Rev. Qsco E. Gardin Jr. and the congregation of Trinity "Baptist ChurcTi, Danville, Va. will be the special guest. The Rev. Lacy E. Simpson Jr. is the host pastor. Gardin is a native of Canton, Ohio. He is the son of the Rev. Osco E. Gardin Sr. and Geneva V. Gardin, both of Gastonia. He was licensed to preach the gospel and ordained by the authority and order of First Bap tist Church in Fayetteville. Garcjin is u graduate ol Mckin ley High School in Canton. Ohio. His post-secondars education took place at Shaw L'niversit) in Raleigh, where he received his bachelor of arts degree in behavioral science with a concentration in sociology. While pursuing his undergraduate degree he served as a member of the Theological Fraternits. Forensic Society, Gospel Choir and Choral Society. Gardin pursued his graduate Area Weddings studies at the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake For est. where he received his master of divinit> degree. Gardin has a life time of church- related and ministerial expe rience. His ministries include serv ing a gToup leader and facilitator for a marriage enrichment ministry, coordinator for an outreach ministry v- ith a focus in prison ministries and editor for an outreach newspaper. Gardin has conducted revivals across the U.S. and has ministered in Gist-Carter Sophy Runette Gist and Norman Kennard Carter were married Feb. 1? in a 4 p.m. ceremony at Cappado cia Holiness Church ot God of Deliverance Inc. Elder Paul E. Jeter Sr. officiated. The bride is the daughter of Johnnie Mae Fuller of Winston-Salem. - . The groom is the son of Judy ulivia Brabham ot Winston-Salem. The bride was given in marriage by Johnny R. Fuller, her brother. Bridesmaids were Katrina T. Harris, sister of the bride, and Princella M. Gist, cousin of the bride, both of Winston -Salem. Flower girls were Brittany Page. Domonique James, Jasmine James and Shanika Summers; The best man was Timothy L. Carter, the groom s brother, of Winston-Salem. Usher was Deacon Kelvin Vaughn, friend of the couple, of Winston-Salem. The bride is a graduate of West Forsyth High School. She is employed as a certified nurse's assistant at North Carolina Baptist Hospital. She is a member of Cappadocia Holiness Church of God of Deliverance Inc. The groom is a graduate of Parkland High School. He is employed at Rip's Painting and Decorating Inc. He is a member of Cappadocia Holiness Church of God of Deliverance Inc. The couple will live in Winston-Salem. Norman and Sophy Carter Workshop To Focus On Healing A Spiritual and Emo tional Healing Through Biblical Teaching "Healing Life's Deepest Hurts." an inter-faith workshop on spiritual and emotional healing, will be presented march 19 and 20 at Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Psychologist Richard Faulk, the event's featured speaker, will show through biblical teaching how God wants to heal emotional pain. The workshop covers ways to pray for spiritual and emotional healing and will include prayer sessions. Sponsored by Schuping and Associates Coun seling and Psychiatric Services of Winston-Salem, the event is open to participants of all faiths. Faulk is in private practice in Houston and has an extensive background in Christian counseling and ministry. He is the former administrator of a Christian counseling service and has conducted workshops throughout the U.S.. Canada and Haiti. He is a clinical member of the American Association of Marital & Family Therapists, and has served as adjunct faculty in psychology at Sam Houston State University in Hous ton. Faulk has a well-rounded theo logical background, having attended Southern Baptist Seminary, Asbury Theological Seminary, St. Meinard Seminary. Claremont Theological and The Toronto Schools of Theology (University of Toronto). He has served as adjunct faculty in religious studies at the University of San Diego, and as director of Christian Education for a Lutheran church in the Houston area. "Many people go through life with a poor self image, sometimes stemming from a lack of love or even abuse during childhood." says Martha Shuping. a Win ston-Salem psychiatrist and organiser of the event. "Prayer can help people to experience a much deeper healing in these areas than is possible with secular ther apy alone, and often more quickly." She describes Faulk's prayer ministry as "sensi tive and caring." The evening session on Friday. March 19. 6:30 to 9 p.m.. is tree of charge to the public. Cost for the all-day workshop on Saturday. Carmel Installs New Pastor Mount Carmel Baptist Church. 3230 Heitman Dr.. will install its new pastor, the Rev. Henry C. McNeill, Sunday at 3 p.m. The Rev. G.K. Moss of Zion Baptist Church in Reidsville will be the installation speaker. The public is invited. McNeill answeVed the call to preach when he was 12 years old. He has been preaching for more than 20 years. McNeill is on the General Board of the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina and serves on the Statewide Evangelism Committee. He is the past vice mod erator of the West Roanoke Baptist Association and comes to Mt. Carmel from Historic New Ahoskie Baptist Church of Ahoskie. N.C.. where he was pastor for nearly four years. He is a native of Lumberton. N.C. McNeill received an associate degree in human serv ices technolo gy. a bachelor of divinity degree, and two honorary doctorate degrees. Gospelfest '93 Chi Chi Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority Inc., will present Gospelfest 93 Saturday at the Arts Council Theater. 610 Coliseum Drive, at 7:30 p.m. The admission is S7 for adults and S3. 50 for children.This is the sec ond annual presentation by the sorority. Area performers and -groups arc scheduled to appear. Those appearing include Ranch Johnson, The Claude D. Thomas Inspirational Choir, The Napper Sisters, The Prison Ministry Choir of Goler Metropolitan Church, and the Gospel Supremes featuring Bernard Van Eaton. Also featured in the pro-_ gram will be a choir from East Forsyth High School. Carol Der mon of the Brown Sisters will be mistress of ceremonies. Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. is an international sorority of men and women and diverse cultural and educational backgrounds. Membership con sists of registered professional nurses and nursing students. The charter chapter, Alpha, was orga nized at Freedmen's Hospital in Washington in 1932 with the two-fold purpose of elevating the plane of nursing and increasing interest in the nursing profession.
