Winston Hoyas Pull Off Shocker With Championship Title Playing in the Winston Lake YD A Championship M 1 4- ye-ax-oki Basketball Tournament, the Hoyas pulled of an upset coming from the bottom of the ranking to take the championship. The Hoyas were 2-7 when they went into the first round of the tournament against the Wolvfrfincs^-on Wednesday, March 3. To the surprise of many they put their talent on the line and defeated the 6-3 ranking team. On Friday, March 5. the Hoyas sent the 7-2 ranking Blazers a-packing and found themselves in line for the championship game on Saturday. ?March 6, against the 8-1 ranked Bulls. The Hoyas kept fans on the edge of their seats as they spun-off with heart throbbing action, pulling off the shocker of the tournament with a 58-55 victory over the Bulls. Shannon Johnson was named 'MOST VALUABLE PLAYER' for the Hoyas scoring 19 points. Jason Pitt skillfully moved from point guard to forward. Tauric Rice gave a lot of support to the team as point guard and Kassim Richardson was second high scorer with 16 points. Also scoring points were: Evan Williams-10; William Fulton-four; Alvino Reid-four and Alfred W'hite ihree. Other team players were: Tau rice Rice, Cory Hairston, Latoya Scales. Jeffrey Allen, ancPAntonie Clinton. It was a whole team effort, because without team effort the Hoyas could have never 'rattled the cage' of the top three contenders. Scoring points for the Bulls were: Kenta Sharpe-22; Billy Williams-1^ Jason Brayboy-six; Ben Stevenson-four; Veon McHam three; Braylon Jennings-two; Andre' Brown-two; and Adams Rashad two. Other players for the Bulls were: Fumisho Bass, Lamar Conner. Danielle Harper, Antome McCol lough, Silas Pressley 111, and Nairn ? Dedrick Car penter and Bart Williams with one j point each. Contributing to the Nets ' were team players: Nlychal Conrad, Charles Denning. Edmond Crosby. William Tillman. Anthons Well man, Dwayne Gilliam. B. Wilder and Broderick Cloud. Scoring points for Carolina were: Frederick Clark six: Herston Fails-five. Odano Tor rence-five, Dejeam Willis-four; Ahmad Allen. Lawrence Linton and Reginald Price-two points each. Also playing for Carolina were: Jeromy Baileys Peen Johnakin. Jonathan Linton and Marchello Young. Rams Slide By Jaguars 47-42 Playing on the 12T-15 year-old division, the Rams slid by the Jaguars in the final game of the tour nament to take the Championship 47-42. Bobby Little Jr. w-as high scorer for the Rams and the game hitting 22 points. Other Rams scor- | ing points were: Antoine Barnes- I eight: James Stevens-four: Harold Hairston-four: Brandon Cain-three; Derrick Davis-two and James Hair ston-two points. Contributing to the team were: Mike Jowers, Anthony Nelson. Crayman Coaunor and Shawn Williford. The Jaguars took second place in the tournament after a hard fought come-back from the bottom. Jarian Wallace was high scorer for the Jaguars with 17 ^ points".
