State Games to Be Held The 1993 State Games of North Carolina will be held in Durham, this year June 24 through 27 and is designed to involve youngsters ages 11-18. It was announced by Winkie La Force, president of North Caroli na Amateur Sports (NCAS), the 'non-profit organization that pro duces the annual athletic competi tion for all ages and skill levels. Hie first-ever State Games was held in new York in 1978. By 1992, 42 states had joined this national movement along with over 500.000 athletes who participate annually across the United States. The 1993 Regional host cities prior to the State Games will be Asheville. Raleigh and Jacksonville, which will take place June 11, 12 and 13. Surrounding counties that will compete in the Western Asheville Regionals are: Forsyth. Stokes, Davidson. Stanly, Union. Rowan. Davie, Yadkin. Surry, Wilkes. Alleghany and Cabarrus. Competing in the Central Raleigh Regionals are surrounding counties: Guilford. Rockingham. Randolph, Montgomery, and Anson. The sports represented in the games may change annually: how ever, here is a list of sports included for the 1993 games: baseball, youth basketball, bowling, cycling, eques trian, figure skating, golf, gymnas tics. ice hockey, karate, sailing, shooting, soccer, softball. sporting clays, swimming, table tennis, taek wondo, tennis, track & field, volley aball and wrestling. Athletics will be contacted through the school system. Boys & Girls Club. YMCA. and youth orga nizations..
