I I , _l Youth Track Field Series The 1993 Youth Celebration Track and Field Series will be held on Thursday, April 22 at 4:15 p.m.; Tuesday May 4, at 4:15 p.m.; and Thursday May 20 at 4: 15 p.m. at the Atkins School Track and Field. The events (boy^ and girls will compete in separate divisions) will be as follows: Boys & Girls 9-10 Born in '83 or'84 Runs of 50. 100, 220. and 440 Standing Long Jump Softball Throw Boys & Girls - 11-12 Born in *81 or'82 Runs of 100. 220, 220 and 880 Standing Long Jump Softball-Throw 0 Boys & Girls - 13-14 ^ Born in '70 or '80 Runs of 100, 220, 880, and 1 Mile _ Standing Long Jump Softball Throw Attirer Shirt and shorts must be worn at all times. Must wear shoes: track shoes with or without spikes are not permitted. Winston Lake Starting Friday, the city will close Winston Lake Park Road at the Winston Lake Golf. Clubhouse, 3535 Winston Lake Road. The closing, which will allow Equipment: No starting blocks are used. Purpose Statement: The pro pose of the Hershey's National Track & Field Youth Program is to create a form of recreation and participation for the youth of Ameri ca. It must be stressed that the importance of the basic philosophy of this program?to stimulate the participation of all eligible children. It is in no way construed as an all star program for chosen individuals. Participation, enjoyment and physical exercise are the main ele ments of this program. At all times we shall strive to maintain the con duct of this program al a very basic 4evel for these children. Through proper guidance^and assistance, it is our firm belief and piiope that we may positively shape the direction of the future of these children. Congratulations to Brandon Corpening, participant in the 1992 National Hershey's Finals Meet and Andre McManus, 1992 National Champion, 13- and 14-year old Boys Softball Throw. Close Road traffic only to the golf course, is for the safety of golfers crossing from the parking lot to the clubhouse and golf course. Boxing Exhibition There will be a Spectacular' Amateur Boxing Exhibition at the 14th Street Community Center on April 21 at 5 p.m. Featuring Antwan Hairston, Tony Lin dsayT Rico Hairston and the debut of an up and coming amateur Darren Smith. Don't miss this special event. Come out and support your local community center and also support these talented youngstenrwtio tiave worked very hard at preparing this exhibition for the public. Karate Exhibition There will he a karate exhibi tion held at the Sims Center located at 1230 Alder Street on Wednesday, April 28, at 7 p.m. The exhibition will be present ed by Shin-Du Karate Do-Jo demonstrating various forms of self defense, forms and Katas which are used in various tournaments. The event is free of charge, and should not be only of interest to those with an interest in martial arts, but also entertaining. The community and public is invited. Track Club Registration The Tri-City Relay Track Club will have registration on April 17, 1993 from 12 p.m. through 3 p.m. at the Winston-Lake Family YMCA. The registration fee is $50. The Tri-City Relay Track Club needs your financial support. Your gifts and donations will help some very fine kids pursue their dreams of becoming champion athletes. The Chronicle. I - . - \F. A Clear Kick The Winston-Salem Central YMCA has about 120 youngsters com peting on its 4-5 year-old soccer league. This week's theme for the teams was "good sportsmanship". -> The'Sharks played the Knights. The Sharks opened their season with Brian Temas, May Friedman , Ryan Tqylor and Ben Pulliam lead ing the Sharks offensive attack. Carl Hairston Jr., William Surton and Betsy Serertz were standouts for the Knights with good sportsmanship and good floor action. The Deacons also played the Untouchables with Nicholas Kennedy and Chris Wolla playing well for the Deacons. Standouts for the Untouchables were Heather Nelson and Alex Folmar.
