NCAMB Sponsors Annual Golf and Tennis Weekend Ronald E. Smiley (third right), corporate affairs central region manager for Anheuser-Busch Companies , is joined by colleagues to present a contribution to Julien D. Brown ( second left), executive director of the North Carolina Association of Minority Businesses (NCAMB). The contributions helps to sponsor the organization's annual golf and tennis weekend , which was held recently at the Pinehurst Hotel and Country Club. Barringer in Greens boro. Winston Lake AAU Play Tournament Some of Winston Lake's AAU basketball teams traveled to Char lotte last weekend to compete in Pool Play competing in three games. Teams winning two out of three games qualify to compete in the state playoffs. Results of the games are as follows: Winston Lake 15 year-old went 2-1 defeating Coloarrus. 109-76; defeating Salisbury. 67-65 and fell to Greensboro, 71-74. In the 13 year-old division, Winston Lake took three games defeating Charlotte Gold 68-51; Tyson Tri County, 70-38 and Durham Aces 70-27. ^The 1 1 year-old Winston Lake division took two out of three games defeating Lexington 37-28; Kern ersville 90-7; but fell to the Char lotte Blue team 38-43. Going all the way. Winston Lake's 14 year-old division defeated Avery 79-40; Jerry Wray. 44-48; and Carolina X-Press. 58-49. The 12 year-old division quali fied for the state playoffs with a 55 30 victory over Garner Rd. Thes also defeated Davidson Cits 55-22. but fell to Concord Cavaiice 4W-f>0. Winston Lake's 17 year-old Kings Mountain, 91-69; and Triad Thunder, 59-56. * Winston Lake's 12 Blue and 13 Blue teams didn't qualify for the State Tournament, but are scheduled to compete in the High Hoops Invi tational May 14-16 in Banner Elk, New land and Boone, NC. The 14 & under Winston Lake team w ill compete in the State Play offs this Friday. April 23 at 9 p.m. at Carver School. The State Playoffs will be host division grabbed all three games, defeating Caroline X-presv 81-50; ed by the Winston Lake YMCA at Carver school April 23-25. Mt. Tabor JV Baseball Defeats Davie County Pffotmt Tabor cteftated^fVavie County last Wednesday. 10-3 with a season record of 4-0 and an unblim ished conference record of 3-0 in the Central Piedmont 4-A Confer ence. Mt. Tabor had 12 hits as a team. w,ith Michael SJoop pitching his first completed game of the sea son for a victory record of 1-0. Sloop gave up two hits and three runs. B.J. Fridinger went 'tfot 4 for Mt. Tabor with two stolen bases and one run. Travis Collahan was 1 for 3 with one stolen base and two RBI's. Collahan had a four game hitting streak. Sloop was 2. for 4 with a dou ble, one RBI and two runs. David Yarbough was 2 for 4 tflth a double, one run and one RBI for Mt. Tabor. Dan Farley went 3 for 4 with * double, two RBI's and three runs. Chris Felty hit 2 for 3 with a double. According to Coach George Cook. "We had 12 hits, 10 runs. This was our only game for the week, but for the next three weeks we have three game a week. That's when we'll really be tested." Dodgers some problems in his life and straightened his life out," Davis said.
