AME Church to Celebrate Centennial St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church of Raleigh will host the Annual Conference and Centennial Celebration of the A.M.E. Church in Western North Carolina May 19-23. Founded in 1787 by Richard Allen, the A.M.E. Church continues to uphold the tradition of religious worship and strong positive contri butions to society. "Models of Ebony Excellence," whose lives reflect the vision and legacy of the A.M.E. church, will be recognized during the celebration. The five-day event will include worship services, panel discussions and workshops. Highlighting the celebration will be talks by a num ber of inspirational community, political and business leaders. Among them will be Joseph Lowery . president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference; William C. Turner of Duke Divinity - School; J.D. Lewis of WRAL-TV; Kathryn M. Brown. Connection Lay president. A.M.E. Church; Jeremiah^ Wright of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago; Lonise Bias; and Bishop H. Hartford Brookins. pre siding bishop of the Second Episco pal District. The 72 member churches of the Western Conference will gather in remembrance of the past. Dellabrook Presbyterian Church to Observe Its Annual Women's Day The Presbyterian Women of Dellabrook Presbyterian Church will observe annual Women's Day this Sunday at 1 1 a.m. The speaker will be Daisy Chambers, director of Elementary Education for the Win ston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. Chambers is a native of Win ston-Salem. She received her bache lor's degree in primary education from Winston-Salem State Univer ? ~ sity. She received a master's degree in elementary education from Indi ana State University and earned an education specialist degree in administration from Appalachian State University in 1981. She has worked as a teacher, principal ^and administrator in thelocal public schools since 1961. Chambers is also an active member of Spencer Memorial Christian church. She is vice presi dent of the Christian Women's Fel lowship, a trustee, and teaches the Young Adult Sunday School class. She is also a past state president of the Christian Women's Fellowship. Daisy Chambers Macedonia WiH Hold Holy Convocation Macedonia Holiness Church of God of the Apostolic Faith Inc. will hold its 1 3th Annual Holy Convoca tion May 17-23. Weekday services will begin at 7:30 p.m.- nightly. Members of the Missionary Department will speak on the con vocation's theme. "God's Po^ver Works by the Faith of the- Sons of God." on May 22 at 9 a.m. The ser vice on May 23 will begin at 4 p.m. Dinner will be served in the fellow ship hall. Carmel Baptist Church Inspirational Choir Will celebrate its 23rd anniversary this Sunday at 4 p.m. Bessie Singletary will be the mistress of ceremonies. The theme is "Let Every Thing that Has Breath Praise the Lord." Many local choirs will be pre sent. The Bethlehem Baptist Inspi rational Choir, directed by Marlon "Pete" Thomas, minister of music, will be the special guest ""I Angela B. Parms is president of the Mt. Carmel Inspirational Choir. He received a doctor of philosophy from Trinity's Theological Semi nary in Newburg, Ind.,a diploma from American Academy McAllis ter Institute of Funeral Services in New York, a B.A. of religious edu cation from Trinity College of the Bible in Newburg, and a master of ministry from Trinity Theological Seminary in Newburg.
