sored a baby shower for expecting
mothers enrolled at Independence
.High School.
The shower wa? held on the
school's campus with six mothers
in attendance. The gifts presented
1>\ the sorors included blankets,
jdiapers. sleepers and toiletries.
The project is one of the
annual joint projects sponsored by
;he three chapters of Delta Sigma
fTheta.

American Red Cross Offers Free Swimming Lessons
The American Red Cross, in
cooperation with Winston*
Salem/Forsyth County, Mocksville
Davie County. Stokes County, and
Yadkin County area pools, will be
offering free swimming lessons dur
ing the fifth annual Learn-to-Swim
program and offering infant and
child water safety classes through
the sectmd annual Merbabes" pro
gram.
Learn-to-Swim, beginning in
June, targets non-swimmers and
introduces basic swimming skills
and water safety awareness to
youth, age 6 and older, and adults.

Summer Art Camps for Children Offered at Sawtooth
Summer art camps for children at Winston
Salem's Sawtooth Center for Visual Art will
begin June 9 and run for 10 weeks through Aug.
13. Each class will meet for one week, Monday
through Friday, to accommodate busy summer
schedules and vacation plans. Each session is
open to children aged 4 to 13 with age-appropri
ate class divisions. The fee for each week is $80.
The week of July 6-9 is S64. due to the Fourth of
July holiday. Discounts are available for chil
dren who sign up with a friend or sibling or reg
ister for more than one week. Some scholarships
are available. Pre-registration is required for all
classes. Some sessions are already full for
younger children, and names are being taken for
waiting lists. For further information, call the
Sawtooth Center office at (919) 723-7395 week
days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Each week-long class is based on a different
theme, encouraging children to create bridges
between the visual artv artd ever\da\ life. Stu- !
dents will explore a vanet\ ot subjects from the |
perspective of different mediums. Bach session
will include drawing and painting fundamentals.
Other possible project* will involve print
making, collage, fiber. photos ami phonograms,
clay, and othei three-dimensional media. Pro
jects will differ each week.
