Black Theatre Festival Gears Up for August Return
Two stars of ABC TV's
"Homefront" will appear at 12 p.m.
Tuesday at Winston Square JPark to
help set the stage for the third
National Black Theatre Festival,
which returns to Winston-Salem
Aug. 2-7.
Hattie Winston and Dick.
Anthony Williams, who play the
roles of Gloria and Abe Davis on
the television series, will participate
in an announcement on plans for the
festival. They will be joined by
Larry Leon Hamlin, producer of the
festival, and James W. Johnston,
president and chief executive officer
of RJ. Reynolds Tobacco Co. John
ston will recognize corporate sup
porters of the event
Hamlin, who organized the first
National Black Theatre Festival in
1989, will announce the stellar list
of performers who will be honored
and who will participate in the 1993
festival.
Winston's television credits
include starring roles on the comedy
Hattie Winston
series "Coming to America" and
"Nurses." She appeared for several
years on the PBS breakthrough chil
dren's program, "The Electric Com
pany," in which Rita Morena and
Morgan Freeman were included in
the ensemble cast. Her films include
"Clara's Heart," "Show of Force,"
and "Bolero."
Williams is an active performer
Dick Anthony Williams
on stage, on television and in film.
He is a series regular on "Home
front," "Our Family Honor" and
"Heart of the City." His film credits
include "Edward Scissorhands,"
"Mo* Better BlUes," "Tap," "Gar
dens of Stone," "The Jerk," "Dog
Day Afternoon" and "The Deep."
He has guest-starred on television's
"L.A. Law," "WIOU," "Hawk,"
