OVER STORY MEAC Spring Championships Student Athletes Compete In Final League Competition GREENSBORO. N.C. ? During the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) 1993 Spring Championships held April 15-17 in Tallahassee, hosting Florida A&M University successfully defended its men's tennis title, won the inaugural women's softball tournament, and also came away with both the men's and u omen's track crowns. North Carolina A&T University claimed the baseball tour lament championship, and Howard Uni versity took the women's tennis title. -Baseball NCA&T swept through four games undefeated to win its first MEAC baseball championship since the conference started its tournament formal in 1984. The Aggies had secured the title in 1974 when final overall records were used to deter mine the champion. Chris Leonard scored on an error in the bottom of the ninth inning as A&T edged Delaware State 6-5 to capture the 1993 title. The Aggies loaded the bases on a sin gle by Kevin Haithlock. a walk to Leonard a ndan error by Hornct-sccund haseman Edgar Santana. The Florida A&M Rattlerette softball team won the inaugural Mid-Eastern Ath letic Conference softball championship Saturday by blowing the past top-seeded Delaware State 20-3 at the Rattlerette soft ball complex. Marigrace got the Rat tlerette rolling, when she hit a solo home run to lead off the first, giving FAMU a 1 0 lead. They scored 15 runs in the next four innings, getting five in the fifth. FAMU was comfortably ahead 20-0 before Del State scored its three runs in the last inning. Del State had reached the championship game by downing NCA&T 11-10. FAMU's Psauntia Andrews was voted the tournament's Most Outstanding Per former and her mentor, Veronica Wig gins, was named the Outstanding Coach.
