Floyd is one of the top 50 high ? school players in North Carolina. ? Otis Attucks and Brian Hauser attend Carver High School. Attucks made All 4-A Metro. High School made All-Central Piedmont and All- Northwest. Anthony Caldwell attends Mt. Tabor High School. Vincent Scott, formerly of Dudley, who presently attends Oak Hill Academy, is the only player not form Winston-Salem. "This team has made a name nationally, for itself, and the college scouts are hot on the trail," Butler said. Butler is also head basketball coach at North Forsyth. He is assist ed by Daryl Napper, Gamell Foster and Gene Malloy. The Lakers were put in the strongest pool of the Best 16 of the 17, and under AAU teams in the nation, including teams from New Jersey, Tennessee and Alabama. Winston-Lake won the pool and advanced to the final four with Winston Lake defeating Boo Williams, the National 17 and under AAU champions last year by a score of 75-73 in the semi-finals. Scoring points for Winston Lake were: Darrell Johnson-20; Mike Floyd- 16; Dameon Foster- 10; and Josh Pittman-10. The Lakers' defense held Iver son, the number one high school player in the nation, to 19 points. The Lakers then lost to the Tennessee Travelers in the finals. Their record stands at 15 and 4. "We beat the number one team in the nation, Boo Williams, out of Virginia," Butler said. "We will play in the 17 and under AAU nationals here in Win ston-Salem on July 16-24 at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum aiuj colise um annex, which is the number one recruiting event for college basket ball coaches.," he said. Butler said the team is current ly functioning independent of the YMCA. Top College Recruits Square Off Jeff Mclnnis and Keith Booth, two of the nation's top college bas ketball recruits, measured up against the competition during the Annual McDbnald's Ail-American High School Basketball Game held recently in Memphis. The high school seniors now rank among the game's greatest recruits at the college level. Mclnnis and Booth join a list of "who's who," including Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing~and Shaquille O'Neal, who were former members of the team. Proceeds from this year's event will benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Memphis, a home-away from-home for families of seriously ill children being treated at nearby hospitals. Girls' State Track Championships Held North Forsyth's girls finished fourth in the 4- A State Track Meet held on May 21, with a team score of 29. Taking eighth and ninth place consecutively were Greensboro's Grimsley with 20, and Greensboro's Smith scoring 20 points. Halima Haith from Smith took second place in the high jump with 5'4". Michelle Clayton of East Forsyth finished in third place in the discus, throwing 116 1". Clayton also took second place in the shot put, throwing 378". Kim Wilson of Grimsley ran her way to a first-place finish in the 100-meter run in 12.20 seconds. Chanisity Huntley of Dudley took third place with a time of 12.42. Darlis Poole of North Forsyth fin ished fourth in 12.51 seconds. In the 800-meter relay. North Forsyth took second place with a time of 1:42.84, falling slightly behind Dudley, who took first with a time of 1:42.21. Jennifer Strange of North Forsyth made her way to a second place finish in the 1 , 600-meter run II ? Wftjfafr* J Melanie Sellers with a time of 5: 15.20. Dudley took first place in the 400- meter relay in 48.34 seconds. Once again North Forsyth stood out as Melanie Sellers finished fifth in the 400-meter run with a time of 58.97 seconds. Halma Haith finished first for Smith in the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.22. In the 800-meter run Jennifer Strange of North Forsyth took third place with a time of 2:22.54. Michelle Clayton Stephanie Anderson of West Forsyth was stepping high with a fifth place win with a time of 2:23.75. Kim Wilson of Grimsley took another first place finish, this time in the 200-meter run, with a time of 25.13. Dana Wiley of Dudley fin ished third with a time of 25.20 sec onds.
