five-event Sunset Concert Series *93
that will include appearances by
Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee.
In spite of his improvished
childhood in West Side, Chicago,
Townsend became famous with the
release of the 1987 movie "Holly
wood Shuffle,** a film he wrote, pro
duced, directed and starred in. The
comedy was widely acclaimed and
established him as a ground-break

phy's concert film "Raw" and had a
starring role in MGM's 1989 release
The Mighty Quinn," opposite Den
zel Washington. He then took his
talent to the small screen, creating a
highly successful series of comedy
specials entitled "Robert Townsend
and His Partners in Crime** for
HBO.
In 1991, Townsend brought his
second film project, the comedy -
drama The Five Heartbeats" to the
silver screen. His latest film "The
Meteor Man** will open in August
and stars Townsend along with*

Bill Cosby, James Earl Jones,
among others. Townsend is also
currently producing "Townsend
Television," a variety show thai will
debut this summer on Fox.
'The Comedy Convention" will
also showcase the talent of Tommy
Davidson of "In Living Color"
along with other comedians, includ
ing Willie Wilson and Will-E DJ
Robo Cop.

to the Great Smoky Mountains
National Park.
During their stay, students
participate in academic and spe
cial-interest courses in photogra
phy, jcyifnalism, computers, art,
astronomy and other topics.
Community service and discus
sions about current issues, led by

Assembly.
