Church to Hold Men's and Women's Dav Reynolds Temple C.M.E. Church will observe its annual Men's and Women's Day at 11 a.m. this Sunday. Vivian Burke will be the speaker. Burke is the wife of Logan Burke. Her son is in private law practice. She is a member of Grace United Presbyterian Church. She serves on the Winston Salem Board of Aldermen, where she has served the Northeast Ward since 1977. She is also mayor pro ? tempore, chairman of the Public Safety Committee, and a member of the Public Works Committee. Burke has received many hon ors, including the Outstanding Woqian of the Year and Most Dis tinguished Political Award. She is involved in a number of community organizations. Zion Church will hold Vacation Bible School June 21-25. The theme is "Of All God's Xrealures,J3reaJL and JSmalL Jesus Loves You Most of All." Preschool and adult classes will be held. Spencer Memorial Christian Church to Observe Youth Day Spencer Memorial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will hold its annual Youth Day services this Sunday during the 1 1 a.m. ser vice. Tracey Carlette Kennedy will be the speaker. Kennedy is graduated magna cum laude from Winston-Salem State University in 1992, where she received a bachelor of. science degree in molecular biology. She attends Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where she is pursuing a Ph.D. in biomedical science. Kennedy is a member of the church and the Sunday School Department, where she volunteered as a teacher for a number of sum mers during the church's Vacation Bible School program. She is also a member of the James A. Brown Celestri aTchoir. She is the daughter of Stella Kennedy and the Rev. Charles W. Kennedy. She has a sister, Twanda. New Bethel Celebrates Church and Pastor Anniversaries New Bethel Baptist Church will observe the 103rd anniversary of The church and the 49th anniver sary^ the pastor, the Rev. Jerry Drayton this Sunday at 1 1 a.m. The Rev. Chancy R". Edwards, North Carolina state senator from Fayetteville, will be the guest speaker. Music will be rendered by a mass choir directed by Dollye Mack. Edwards is a native of' Nash County, where he attended the pub lic schools. He has lived in Fayet teville since 1953. He is a graduate of Shaw University and Shaw Divinity School. Edwards is pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church in Fayetteville. Rev. Chancy R. Edwards He retired in 1990 after 37 years as pastor. He has served as president of. the General Baptist State Conven tion of North Carolina and president of the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Rev. Jerry Drayton Mission Convention, U.S.A. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the Baptist World Alliance. He currently serves as the special assistant to the Rev.. Wen dell C. Somerville, executive secre tary /treasurer of Lott Carey. EdwaTds has served on the local and state boards of education and is a former member of the North Carolina House of Represen tatives. He is married and the father of a daughter and two grandchildren. A drawing of the planned new building for friendship Baptist Church. __ - Friendship Baptist to Build New Church The pastor, officials and mem bers of Friendship Baptist Church are constructing a new sanctuary and educational complex. The new church and complex are being con structed on the present site, just east of the present church, located at 1 ^th and Cherry streets. Ground-breaking ceremonies^ were held April 20. Approximately 350 people were present for the ser vice. The church will be constructed with bricks of two different textures with eight large laminated arches. The seating capacity of the sanctu ary will be adequate for the present tutu re growth. The wings of the new structure will include a total educational facil ity. library, trophy room and rooms for officials and other personnel. It will have a completed ground level with a multi-purpose room for 450 ami complete kitchen facilities.
